Bumping this for anyone who is looking for a mentor. Impress him or her by showing off your reading and listening skills, then they will know you will pay attention to their adviceThe list has been updated to this point. Thank you to everyone who has participated in this topic! :flowerforyou:
Looking for a Mentor?
Please review the short paragraphs of the members and feel free to PM them or send a friend request (you should include a little bit about yourself as many members won't accept blank friend request). Hopefully, you will utilize this as a mentoring tool to increase the chances of success.
Keep in mind, that mentors are NOT obligated to accept new members if they do NOT feel it's a good fit... especially if you PM them with a creepy message or their plate is full.
Wish to remove yourself from the mentor list?
Please send @Rachel, @Olivia or @Michelle a PM requesting for your name to be removed.0 -

Trust me, that wasn't directed at you specifically Though you did mention that you want a mentor who is a good match, so working your way through the list and looking at profiles might be the best way to go about it0 -

Hey! I would love to find a mentor to help through my weight loss journey. I have used the tracker before but now I am taking my health much more seriously than before. I would love it if I could find someone like me. I'm 22 years old and I would like to lose 80lbs. My biggest problems are the intimidation of the gym and my diet. Please feel free to message me or add me! Thanks0

I'll be happy to mentor one or two people. I'm 28/male, between 5'7" and 5'9" (it's funny, I've never got 3 consecutive consistent measurements).
Been working out since almost 10 years or so. However, started a consistent fitness regime only from April-2011. It's been a bumpy ride and I've battled the following:
-- Lower back pain
-- Shoulder pain (read: rotator-cuff tear). Was out of action from July-2013 to Feb-2014.
-- Knee pain
-- Hyper-sensitivity to pre-workout stuff and coffee
-- Tendency to gain fat pretty fast
My philosophy has always been to be functionally-fit. This is primarily because I try to stay engaged with some kind of sports. Because of this, I try to incorporate a lot of plyo-style cardio in my workouts and also try to get creative with the usual lifting exercises (because of my history with injuries).
My favorite workout is a 7-minute-burpee-challenge. I also like to run on weekends.
I was ~190 lbs in Apri-2011 with about 22% BF. Right now, I'm at 155 lbs (not sure about the BF percentage though. My goal is to test out the BF percentage when I reach 145 lbs). Almost all my injuries are history now. They do pop up every now and then during a really exhaustive workout, e.g. slight knee pain after a 10k or slight shoulder pain after doing a heavy shoulder-set.
Lately I started logging food (~65 odd day streak) and it's been absolutely transformational (as far as my fitness is concerned). I recover much faster than I used to, feel much more athletic. Heck, it's got so interesting that my body starts craving the macros that are under the required level for a given day. This is largely in the mind, but definitely helps me stay fit.
My motivation for posting here: The first 2-4 weeks of my nutrition-logging were the toughest. I've lost count of how many times I quit logging just because it was a large PIA.
Also, it's hard to notice immediate results. Hence, I had to try extremely hard to keep myself motivated.
I just want to make this initial-phase easier for a few people. Moreover, it's a lot of fun when you workout with a buddy. Similarly, it might be fun to log nutrition with someone else as it'll keep the both of us extremely motivated.
PS: I'm extremely competitive by nature. If this thing works out, then it'll be cool to do weekly challenges with the partner as well.
Cheers,
Ankit0 -

To be honest. ive been on this app since january religiously. but ive had this app for multiple years. I had an eating disorder and one point in my life, where i weighed around 165. then i tried to get better and weighed 170, slowly i started gaining and weighed 180. i told myself id do it the healthy way and tried to always stay healthy. then i went to college and it got the best of me. i got to my highest weight ever of 206 ponds. and thats when i told mysef no. that i wouldnt do this anymore. ive been trying to be healthy, and sometimes I have those days where i just want to stop eating, and I try not to but cant, because knowing i have to be healthy doing this is what I tell myself. Ive hit a plateau for the past month or so and ive just been sitting around 195. I dont want to be here any more, im working at small goals. so for 190, then 185 and so on. I just really want this all gone, I dont know If i would be a mentor or not, more just like a buddy to support each other0

Hi, I am new here and to dieting, I grew up in a fairly healthy eating environment in Mexico, I married my husband (american) 2 years ago and let's just say we've been a negative influence to each other in the health department, we have yet to adapt to married life and find balance, we have been doing 2 "big meals" because I am used to having it at lunch and him at dinner but I had already gained a bit of weight because I stopped working out regularly before I met him, so it makes sense that more food + no workout + baby = fatter me.
I'm 5'2", 32 years old with love handles and serious mommy tummy, current weight is 170, it's been a year since my son was born so there is no excuse. My goal is to get my flat tummy back and get rid of this back pain so I can play with my baby who is just learning to walk.
I would love to find new friends that will be a good influence and a mentor wouldn't hurt! I just bought a bench and dumbbells and after reading around here I realized I need a kitchen scale so I ordered one, just trying to figure out what would be a good approach for me, it's a bit overwhelming.0 -

I, personally, don't have the best of eating habits, but I know what healthy eating looks like. Like many have said before, easier said then done. I don't judge people when they mess up (it will happen) because I've messed up plenty in my life. I've lost almost 25 lbs and plan to lose at least 5 more, but we'll see where things go. I'm a vegetarian too.
Could you mentor me?0 -
I need a mentor!!! I'm 34, in pretty good shape already but I'm looking to step it up to the next level. I'm 5'5" 155, exercise 5 times a week mandatory and some times more. I'm looking for someone to give me tips tricks praise and rough honest criticism when I fall off.0

I am in need of a mentor. I am from Canada and am in my late 40's. Due to medical issues (medication I must take daily) I find it hard to keep weight off. Need some to give the that boost when I am feeling down to keep focused on my long team goal of getting my health back after cancer and to stay positive.0

I'd be willing, will send you a PM, but I have no experience as of yet with cancer drugs and their effects on weight loss.0 -

Side effect is major weight gain... need to say focus on my long term goal.

I'd love to mentor someone beginning their journey.
I started MFP about a year ago. An injury last winter and a work-from-home job led to some unwanted weight and when I finally stepped on the scale and saw 183.8 pounds, I was shocked! I knew I had put on a little weight, but I thought I was maybe 165-170. I'm also tall-ish (5'7") so I carried it reasonable well, but definitely knew that clothes weren't fitting how they used to.
Anyway, that was all the motivation I needed. I initially started by MFP journey simply by eating less. Portion control was huge for me—I eat good, whole foods, but consuming 3,000 calories per day (even if it's veggies and lean meats) was simply too much for me.
After losing about 17 pounds, I knew it was time for the next step: to start working out. I started C25K and strength training and ended up falling in love with running. Since October, I've run many races and have basically become a sponge for learning about all things running. I'm running my first half-marathon on Sunday. I couldn't run for 30 seconds in October!
I've now last about ~32 pounds since I've started, surpassing my goal of 30 pounds. Now, the next goal is simply to get leaner and faster.
Sometimes the less weight you have to lose makes it harder; it's so easy to say "Oh, I'm not really that overweight—what's 10 pounds?" The losses are slower and it's easy to get discouraged but it's so worth it. I'd love to mentor someone in a similar position or someone who's interested in beginning running.0 -
I wouldn't mind mentoring or being mentored; really I want an accountability partner to learn from and teach, for us to learn from each other. A little bit about me: I created a group on here called "Christians With Mental Illness" because I'm a Christian and in 2010 I was diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder; mental illness is so highly stigmatized, so I wanted us as Christian brothers and sisters to support each other; I'm not afraid to talk about my diagnosis, not to be pitied but for people to understand I am just like everyone else, created in God's image. I'm willing to be a friend to anyone, not just a person with a mental illness.0

Here's a bit about me: I'm 5'1, and looking to lose 40-45 lbs. I've had 2 babies, and lots of delicious food - my mother in law is a wonderful cook and baker But it's time. I want my body back. I used to be quite athletic as a teen and could eat anything, but just never changed my eating habits as I aged. ALL my weight seems to collect around my midsection - belly/hips and thighs. I am done with this muffin top! I HATE IT!
Any mommy mentors out there willing to help? I'm 110% committed!
I don't know if I can be a mentor but I know that maybe we can all motivate one another through the app! I love seeing people's progress because it's inspiring and if I can inspire people in return then that's great! You can totally add me and hopefully we can inspire eachother!0 -
I'm not necessarily a newcomer, but am newly getting dedicated to MFP, losing weight, and creating a healthy lifestyle. I realise that this goal and the will power it requires is on me, but I also know that it will be that little bit easier with the more support I can get and would love a mentor to help me get there! PM me if you're interested! Katie x0

Good evening. My name is Tara and I hail from the North Island of New Zealand. I am currently 30 years old and have two children (both boys) aged 7 and 3. After many years of failed fad dieting, falling completely off the wagon and losing myself completely, enoughs enough! It's time to get serious about getting my body back. I am looking for one super cool, yet motivated mentor to support me through my journey. I am looking to lose up to 70 pounds, which is quite scary but super exciting. I'm about as noob as you get on this site, I signed up 10 minutes ago and I need you! Please, contact me via PM if you think you'd be a good fit for me xo Thank you0

Hi all,

Need nutrition and fitness (cardio + lifting) guidance.
Would you like to adopt me?

I need to be adopted!! I am a 33 year old mother of two. I am currently 193 lbs and my goal is to be 140 in two-ish years. I work full time and find it a struggle to keep on track. My husband, bless his heart, doesn't like me to put pressure on myself and as a result ends up talking me into taking it easy. I need to be accountable to someone. I need to keep motivated.0

Noob looking for a mentor.
I'm 39, happily married and wanting to have kids.
SW: 329 / CW 271 / GW ~140* But, hopefully there will be a pregnancy or two before I get to my goal weight.
Ideally, I'd love to pair up with a woman who has been at my SW and dealt with pregnancy.
