If your not gaining weight then simple calories in versus out would mean your still not getting enough calories. What's your goal say and how much are you eating on average?0
-
What are you stats? Exercise program? Average intake? (Not your goal, that you may or may not be hitting/exceeding. What is your actual average intake?)0

What do you want people to say other than "eat more food"?0

Excuse the rudeness of certain ppl "eat more" jez I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot u wouldnt be saying eat less to an obese person would u anyway kc have u been to the doctors? You may be burning it off to fast maybe it's a metabolism issue? Try eating more whole grain, whole wheat, brown rice x0

Yes. Not as brutally. But yes. So many times. Have you not read any of the 'I've been on here 5 mins and am not losing weight' posts?
@OP - Probably not eating enough. Eat some more, maybe do some more strength training?

No I'm new here but even I can see that there are real ppl with real feelings and emotions behind this app and maybe think about what u say before you say it as u don't know how they feel about themselves u know, if u don't have anything useful to say then just don't comment is all I'm saying I'm sure eat more wasn't very helpful sorry if I sound like a so n so but please try to understand big or small everyone is here for the same reasons x0

What's wrong with telling them to eat more? That's how you gain weight. If you're not gaining weight, you're not in a calorie surplus, and you need to be. People are genuinely trying to help. Also, brown rice doesn't make people gain weight... Bit confused about that advice.0 -
All suggested works through the body slower if she has a fast metabolism as everything like white bread, cake etc can be burnt off to quickly think it's complex carbohydrates anyway I understand u don't see anything wrong with that but I don't see how that's helpful don't u think every thin person knows to eat more? That's my point she could have an underline cause for the weight loss hence the " fast metabolism " comment I made, I'm underweight myself and find it annoying when ppl tell me "oh u should eat more" I know I do but it's difficult the same as it is for a bigger person "oh eat less, u lose weight then" clearly not that easy and hurtful in the process because it's not advice really is it eat more x0

Yes it is advice. I was underweight and when I wasn't gaining weight I started eating more CALORIES, as per the ADVICE of others to do so. it's not just more food. Op might not be measuring food properly. Time and time again, the point has been made on this board that people who try to gain habitually overestimate hope much they eat, and people trying to lose habitually underestimate their intake. Also mfp gives an estimate that you adjust as you learn your needs . Op could've logged the wrong activity level, making mfp give too low of an estimate.0 -
Thanks to the people that actually helped , I will try some of your ideas !cupkate1221 wrote: »I had the same problem foreevveerrrrr!!! Then I started drinking ensure plus and it's only 2days and I've already gained a pound! Also doing some workouts to gain muscle will help to.

This is the gaining weight forum. Not food and nutrition.
We are serious about this stuff in here and don't encourage woo. If you want advice from people who have successfully added mass, then you're just going to have to keep adding calories to your daily amount until you're gaining 1/2lb a week.
The sad truth is, that all the incorrect info posted above by people who have no clue will not help the OP, no matter how nice or well-intentioned it was.
The simple directive "eat more food" - check for weekly gain - rinse/repeat will get weight added. If you want more of that gain to be muscle/lbm rather than fat tissue, then you need to be on a good lifting routine as well.
And for the record - yes, if someone was obese and still gaining weight and desperate to lose it, my advice would be "eat less, move more". Because things can really be that simple. Not easy to do, but simple.0 -

On this single point, we are in complete agreement.
I am unclear as to why suggesting the OP eats more food is unhelpful? It is the thing that will actually help them achieve their stated goals...0 -
Eating more food, and lifting more weights is the perfect answer. There is no specific formula that we are trying to keep from you to be spiteful. It doesn't matter if you're eating a salad, or a burger, if you're eating small portions or big portions; if you aren't in a calorie surplus, you won't gain a single pound. How do you get into a calorie surplus? You eat more food.0

Jimmer all I'm saying is eat more needs elaborating on eat more isn't helpful ... Eat more what? Meal plans would have been helpful, food ideas helpful not just eat more and ur comment was really helpful saying to eat over the estimate of this app as I found that helpful myself x0

This is what you chose to find helpful? I can gain 5 lb over the course of a day, as can most people.
You need to eat more, consistently, if you want to gain weight. You haven't achieved a surplus yet, so eat more! If ensure and brown rice gets you there, great but any food will do it.
And yes, @bedtime444 if someone was not losing I'd tell them to eat less.

The first three comments on this post asked for more details to try and give more specific advice. Without those details, it's incredibly hard to give meal plans or food ideas. If the OP wants something more than "eat more calories" then answering those questions would probably help.0 -

Calories? Is there a trick question I'm missing? Types of food don't matter, but if the OP is getting full, then they need to concentrate on less volume and more calorie dense foods. There are no magical meal plans that make you gain; just a calorie surplus.0 -

so its rude to tell OP to eat more when she is in the gaining forum and says that she is not gaining?
really???

I just want to add my two cents worth here, for what it's worth. I have a son who has a very hard time gaining weight. At 20 years old, he cannot get into the Air Force yet because he needs to gain weight. He's been told no twice now, but he's determined to gain weight! He is about 5'3, and they weighed him the first time at 99 pounds. If I could lose mine and make it stick to him, I certainly would!! He eats and burns, eats and burns, just sitting still. He tried building muscle, and still didn't gain a pound (probably because he didn't up his calories enough). He tried on his own for about a year, weighing faithfully, but never gaining enough to keep him over 100 lbs. Went to the doctor for advice (which we should have done FIRST, lol)! Dr. told him to drink three Ensure's daily, along with his normal dietary intake of food, to gain weight. He is doing this, faithfully, and has gained a total of about 4 lbs. so far in about a month and a half. He is thrilled with this result, as nothing else worked for him. Four lbs may not seem a lot to some, but he feels his future hangs on those pounds! He prefers the Ensure Plus, as it has 350 calories a serving (one bottle) versus the Ensure (250 calories I think). It's working for him, and he hopes to be at his goal weight of at least 107 by April so he can try again to get into the Air Force. Like others here have said, it's upping the calorie intake but sometimes just more food won't do it. It didn't for my son, and he out-eats my other two sons...but he's the only one with this issue. He's slowly, and steadily, getting there. Hopefully, this will help you get there too. Good luck to you!0

Don't eat so much filler foods like bread. Now you need to eat bread for a good source of protien but try to stay away from rolls and stuff that goes through really quick0

They do sell mass gainer supplements, which are very calorie dense shakes to help add in more calories. I personally have never needed to gain weight, but if you are having trouble increasing your weight it might be worth the effort. Most of the shakes have 600 or more calories per serving and they are loaded with protein because they are designed to help bodybuilders put on weight. Just a thought in case you didn't know about it.0

Look, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (I assume I'm talking to a mostly American audience, please substitute jam if not) comes in at between 350-500 cals (depending on bread type and amount of PB/spread/jam used).
Make 2 PB&J sandwiches a day and eat them in between meals as a snack. It's an easy way to add 800-1000 cals to your day without even trying.
Spending money on "ensure plus" shakes (whatever they are) is not necessary. You need to lay down the eating habits to gain. After a week or two, your body will expect more calories and will make you appropriately hungry - you've just got to make an honest start and dedicate yourself to eating like this for 2 weeks.
Call me suspicious, but is "ensure plus" some kind of MLM deal?0
