C25k question

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any people out there who have completed C25k with medical conditions? I have Fibromyalgia but I am looking to kick things up a little from my 90 min mod pace walking 6 x a week.

Do you think I would still get the benefit if I stretched each section out to 2 weeks instead of the 1 week? Really wanting to push myself a bit.

PS I am 282 pounds :)

    I think this is one of those things where the only answer is really going to come from your body. Probably just have to try it and see. I'd run it past your doc just to make sure there's nothing specifically prohibitive about your fibromyalgia first though.

    I mostly decided to chime in because I was about that size when I started running again, and fibromyalgia or not, it's probably a good idea to take things slow. Your joints are carrying a lot more wait than they were designed for, and you've made some good progress. You don't want to lose that to a twisted ankle or a wrenched knee.

    Oh, and I forgot to answer. I think you'd definitely still get great gains out of it. I did the Zombie 5k program, which is really similar in terms of what the workouts actually entail, and I did it by doubling the weeks like that.

    Yeah, I second the joints. I keep trying C25k over and over, but my knees start to get sore or shin splints start up and I'm on a treadmill (better shock absorption) and have good shoes (went to a specialist running store to ensure I got the pronation thing right). But you can definitely spread out the weeks longer, listen to your body. I think you can give it a go, but just don't hit it on too hard, too fast. I want to run 5ks so bad, like the color run, but not sure if I'll ever see that day.

    Or maybe try an elliptical if your joints do end up hurting? That is smoother on the joints and will amp up your workout.

    You can do this slowly and spread the weeks. I did my first 5k on treadmill after completing the c25k in 5 months. My time was 43 mins (no walking) not the fastest but considering the fact I was 303lbs this is not a bad time:)
