Started trying to lead a healthier lifestyle, only looking to loose 11 lbs to get back to my weight before I had to leave full time work, but mainly looking to kick the snacking, unhealthy foods and to take up some new sports regime due to bloodclots and heart diseases running in my family.

My only worry being that I suffer from chronic daily headaches and I start my new job tomorrow, back into full time work after 4 months out of it. Slightly worried it might be where my biggest challenge comes in for fighting the urge to eat after shifts.

Pretty damn determined though and this is a nifty wee app, seeing all the encouragement between everyone is fantastic.

    Welcome to MyFitnessPal,
It seems like you have the right attitude to do awesome, the headaches can't be all too nice. Have you been to see if there is something that can be done for that(medicine wise, from your GP)?

Wishing you all the very best!

i have found that i, like many people, can be very disciplined during the day at work, but at night with a plate of dinner and a glass of wine, i am tempted to go over board.

there are many ways to combat this. personally, i know that i'm going to want to have at least a second serving of dinner. so what i do is serve myself a 3/4 serving of dinner first, and then another 3/4 serving after. it kinda tricks myself to believe i had two full servings, but i only had 1.5.

    1. Daily headacches, then you need to find out the trigger factors, be it low blood sugar, hydration, stress etc. Obviously take appropriate action. The first two are really important to bear in mind when exercising.
    2. Snacking doesnt have to be a bad thing. Log your food so you know where you are, then Id suggest you have some healthy/ lower calorie foods in your desk, which can be an alternative to going to the vending machine or eating what people have left out, which can be very high calories. Fruit, dried fruit, nuts, veg etc Also if your food choices satisfy your hunger then you will be less likely to snack for that reason.

What's wrong with eating after a shift? Just plan your meals out so you can eat when you want to. Don't force yourself to not eat at certain times.

I'm another full-time snacker pre-MFP and honestly felt that regardless how disciplined I was at work where I knew people could see my level of commitment when I strayed, that once home I'd continue wearing a groove in the floors between the couch and the kitchen.
Using the logging feature of MFP, for every single snack, took care of that for me. Suddenly I was accountable to anyone would look at my diary, whether they did or not.
This morning I realized I need to start moving some of my "saved for snack" calories earlier into the day, I've been having trouble (not much mind you) getting that many calories eaten after work.
Putting that into perspective, how important logging all of my food into the diary is, it was a near daily occurrence for me to get a full days worth at lunch alone... And I wondered why the best I could do then was maintain a very slow weight gain....

I wish you luck on your Journey on MFP. It is a great little app on the phone. I find the longer I use it the easier it gets.
I hope you get your headaches sorted and best of luck on going back to work full time.
I believe a lot of us tend to snack in the evenings. I try and put aside a few calories just for this. Sometimes it's not about changing but being aware and making allocations for these things so you can stay in control.

As someone who ate poorly all his life (and still struggles with resisting snack food) its great to see that you recognize the need to eat healthier. Welcome to MFP and good luck with all your weight loss and fitness goals.
