Lost nearly 8 pounds in one week - what?

Hi all, I've been strictly following MFP and working out consistently for about 5 weeks. The first few weeks I lost 1-2 pounds a week. I'm running about 10-12 miles a week and doing bodyweight strength training (squats, planks, pushups, etc). This week's weigh in I dropped from 154.4 to 146.6 - how is this possible? Is it real weight or was it a fluke? I'm wondering if anyone else experienced a large jump like this a few weeks after they had been working at it and if that weight stayed off.

Could have dumped a bunch of water retention?

Weight loss is not linear. :)

Yes, I could have. I drank alcohol both nights before weigh in - so maybe I was dehydrated?

In my past weight loss experience I will go about 4 to 5 weeks with minimum weight loss, and then *bam* drop a big chunk of weight.

I've lost that much in a day or two before, but not down to a new low - only if I'd been there before recently, gained some due to water retention and such, then dropped it again. Lucky you! lol

I've lost as much as five in a week, after two weeks of little to no progress. I then went back over my diary and noticed I was way under my sodium macro for several days. It's water, but still, I'll take it!

Dehydration can absolutely knock 10 lbs off of me in 5 days... KEEP THAT WATER INTAKE ON HIGH!
