I have been on trt for about 6 months. I recently ran out of my testim and had to have new labs done. Suprisingly the tests came back normal. The only thing I have done differently than I did In the past is I have gotten on the nutrisystem diet and lost around 15lbs in almost 2 months. I also started light excercise as well. Could this be the reason my testosterone levels are normal now? I must admit before I was pretty much a couch potato. What do you guys think??

I don't know if there is any truth but I have always heard/read that having a "healthy" body composition helps hormone balances whereas being overweight can reduce testosterone. Like I said this is all broscience but could have some truth

Weight loss and exercise help to increase testosterone levels.

Speaking as a woman, I'd say my progesterone and my estrogen levels went up. I haven't found a definitive article but is it true that hormones are stored in fat and as we lose weight, these hormones are released?

I don't know anything about testosterone in particular - but think for the most part, the systems within the body work better when we have a reasonable amount of physical activity (on a regular basis) and are at or nearer to a healthy weight. So it is logical...

There is estrogen in fat right? So as you lose weight you rid the woman hormones from your body. Does that help with hormone balance. I am sure it does.

my thought is that the reason your levels are normal is because you were taking supplements. if you stop the supplements, your levels will likely go back to where they were before. from what i know, once you start testosterone therapy, you really can't stop. my husband has been on TRT for 2 years. his levels are perfect b/c he takes an injection every week. i also have TRT. i take a daily dose + supplement injection once per month.

Also I was off the testim for 5 days before the labs so my levels at least it seems to me would have been super low. That is why I was so suprised.

Are you being treated for primary or secondary hypogonadism? what was your testosterone level when you started treatment?

Keep in mind the "normal" range places you on a graph with men from 18 to 100, it also varies per lab. My lab has a swing of 200 ng/dl to 1100 ng/dl as "normal" There are studies out there that narrow down by age group. My testosterone levels are in the 150's, 95% of men in my age group are in the 900's. I'm very far from normal for my age. I don't want the test level of a 100 year old man, I want to be in the 95th percentile of men my age. You can compare your levels to this chart from a 1996 study:

Testosterone is a very serious medication. The medication will shut down you testicles from producing their own T. My guess with the extremely limited info you posted is that the gel has your levels up. You could raise your natural test through exercise, but if you were low enough to be treated you probably didn't. Testosterone replacement is for life because your body isn't producing enough and you are using the medicine to replace natural T.

Do you know the gel's half life in your system? With injections the med will be in you for 7-10 days. So if one took their last injection of testosterone on monday and had blood drawn friday they would still be under the effect of the medicine.

I don't know much about the gels. I'm about to start TRT myself and I'm pushing for weekly injections. The idea of the gel rubbing off on my wife is terrifying to me.

Wanting to be a couch potato is one of the symptoms of low t, keep that in mind. It might just be the testosterone that got you off the couch, on the diet and started working out.

I'm no doctor, but i've been frantically researching TRT since I was diagnosed. I've learned a lot in the last couple weeks. One of the scariest and strongest points I've learned is that doctors generally aren't completly knowledgeable with hormone replacement. This isn't something you can just let the dr dictate, you need to know what and why things are happening with TRT.

You are supplementing and replacing your natural testosterone with Testim.
