Gaining weight -- but why?

I've gained about 5 pounds in a month for no reason - still working out the same, eating the same. And it's definitely not muscle mass but fat.
Just curious to the reasons why I'm gaining so much weight (yep, still gaining). I'm a distance runner so the extra weight has been throwing me off.
Thanks.

Is your weight generally very consistent? Have you recently lost weight before this? Are you tracking everything carefully? How often are you weighing yourself?0
-
Weight has been very consistent up until this past month. Haven't lost some weight since April '14 when I really committed to eating healthier and a balanced diet. I track everything carefully - I even use a HR monitor so I know I'm burning the same amount of calories that I usually do. I weigh myself 3x a week, in the morning before I eat breakfast.
Just frustrated that there seems to be no cause but I can definitely feel the extra weight when running.0 -
You might want to see your doctor then to rule out it isn't a sign of something wonky going on medically. It could also be water retention.0

Thanks for your help. I'll call my doc tomorrow and try to schedule an appt.
Is it possible to keep retaining more and more water?0 -
Yeah, and water retention could also be related to something medical.0

google metabolic adaption. Do X for so long body gets used to it.0

Do you use a food scale to weigh everything you eat?0
-
Do you log your food consistently and honestly?
Do you use a food scale and weigh EVERYTHING?

I would second this. I make a point to always switch up my routes/speeds/etc running and lifting. I keep a couple easy runs, but I changed one easy 4 mile run to a speed workout or a hill workout about a month ago.0 -
Do not use a food scale, but don't really eat food that necessarily requires it (not a big meat eater). I use tablespoons/teaspoons for PB, etc. I log my food every day & am 100% honest with my log. I dropped my calls about 150 in an attempt to lose some of the weight I gained, but just gained more.
Just googled it - metabolic adaption seems like it could be a viable issue if it's not a medical problem. Does reverse dieting cause weight gain? Seems like I'm a little weight obsessed but my body truly replies to gain/loss and it hinders my performance.0 -
Any chance that you are trying to maintain a very low body fat %? I know that can be helpful in running, but it would be hard to sustain over time.0

Last time I checked BF was in Dec '14- I was at 15.4%. Naturally very lean, so I've always had a lower BF for a girl. Can your body have an adverse reaction if your BF is too low & just start preserving fat?0

I would get a food scale if I were you. This is usually the reason why people start to gain weight.

No way I'm pregnant - not sexually active. And I'll look into the food scale, thank you for the suggestion!
Ncboiler89 - very true. Nothing about my routine has changed but my weight continues to go up.0
