Just wondering if there's a big difference between walking and jogging? Would you burn more fat to jog than walk, even if you walked longer?

I was reading an interesting article about this today. jogging or walking both have similar long-term health benefits. the only trick is that you have to walk a lot further or longer than you would have to jog.

As far as i can see and just read its all about burn rates, jogging will burn at a higher rate than most walking, so it depends how long you do either and the intensity. Jogging would have the health advantages of raising your heart rate.

In answer to your question it depends how much longer.

My heart rate goes up (by a lot) when I jog...which means more calories burned...I honestly have no idea if it burns more fat lol! I feel like I read somewhere that high intensity/shorter duration burns more fat than low intensity/longer duration...but don't quote me on that ;)

I read an article on this a few months ago. Both are good for cardio health but just on the caloric burn, jogging will burn more for the same distance as walking because you're body is taking in more oxygen to move you at a faster pace.
Ex, the average 150 lb woman burned around 79 Cals walking a mile and around 105 jogging a mile.

With jogging, you burn more calories because you are jumping between steps rather than resting your weight on the ground. Also, you are probably moving faster, so you have more wind resistance.
