In eat some back cos I have adjusted the settings to 1100 a day as I think my bmr is more like 1600 so 1100 gives me a 500 deficit.
I have adjusted the exercise too as it is too generous on here so I use 80 per mile for running not 100+ and 65 for the cross trainer for example
I exercise a lot so could notnsurvive on 1100 therefore do eat back some but don't plan to eat them all deliberately. I also know I under record my calories so can't really eat them all back every day otherwise I wouldn't lose0 -
I tend to stay within 1200-1400 range when it comes to calories......regardless of any exercise...0

I read that as long as you don't dip below 1200 calories you should be okay. That being said, I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around the idea that I should eat back the calories I burn off; it's SO deep in my brain to NOT eat them back. My husband swears by it though, and he's been doing great. I notice I usually stay in the 1400 range overall most days.0

wow two whole pages of a thread about eating back your exercise calories and not a single mention of "starvation" or the so-called dire consequences of netting less than 1200. i'm impressed!0

I started eating my exercise calories, and my weight loss slowed right down. However, I am only 4' 10" so my BMR is only 1140 calories, and even allowing for my normal daily activities it's only 1420 a day. Horrible to think that most people are losing 1-2lb a week on what will be my maintenance calories if I don't work out!
Anyway, as a result, if I eat 1200 a day, AND eat my exercise calories, I'll have a calorie deficit of merely 220 calories a day, which means it would take me at least 15 days to lose 1lb. As it is, I'm losing nearly a pound a week, and due to my regularly working out in the gym what I'm losing is all fat.
At some point, I may need to start eating more, but for now I'm losing and I'm happy. Though at my size I could go down to 1100 a day, I rarely eat fewer than 1200 calories; getting sufficient nutrition is important to me.0 -
and even two people who are consulting and following dr.'s orders. doubly impressed.0

You all are making it way too complicated.
I pick a calorie goal. I eat said goal.0 -
actually, to some extent i think that is what most on this thread are saying. that's why i found this thread refreshing.0

So true...and so funny...0 -
If I bust my hump exercising off 600-800 calories...no way am I going to eat back those calories every day. But it does leave room for the occasional treat on the weekends If you're worried about 'starvation' mode and losing muscle instead of fat...lift some weights! I have to wonder why the strength exercises aren't counted as calories burned on here? So, if I hit the machines hard for an hour instead of running, I won't ever go into starvation mode? Can anyone explain this to me?0

I eat my 1200 and dont eat more if i am not hungry - even if this gives me a net of 700-800 after excercise.
If however i am hungry i will eat a little more until i am satisfied.
I dont go out of my way to eat back my excercise calories but if i do eat some it is because i was still hungry.
I feel i am doing pretty good losing almost 14 lbs in 7 weeks and am happy with they way its going.
I do get a little tired of listening to people go on and on about "starvation mode" and how bad it is to not eat back excercise calories.
What works for some does not work for everyone so do what works for you! I am not saying do it nor am i saying not to do it - try both for a week or so and see how you feel and you might know more whether its for you or not.
I have tried eating back my excercise calories after reading so much about why you should and it did not work out for me as well as it might for some people so i perfer to do my eating and excercising the way i like :happy0 -
I usually exercise 550-1000 calories a day. I usually eat 100-200 over my allotted calories for the day. So I'm eating back 10-40% of my exercise calories I guess. The reason I eat a bit more than my allocated calories is that it's just really hard to hit it right on, and with as hard as I'm working out (twice a day) I don't want to run out of fuel.0
