@fabnine‌ - your streak was awesome and I think served its purpose to keep you active and up and running through winter. If ever there was a winter that a runner would need encouragement or a reason to get out - this was it and you did it! Amazing accomplishment!!
@akirkman86‌ - there used to be a runner on this thread who ran to work with her kiddo in a stroller - @RunnerElizabeth‌. I haven't seen her post for a while but maybe she will see this and pop in with info on running with a stroller and specifically a jogging stroller vs a regular stroller.
@ddmom0811‌ - yes March seems like it is going on and on and on but then I also have vacation next week that I am looking forward too!

8.3km today - was looking to do 10, but my right calf muscle 'popped' again after 5km, so I had to head straight home. Disappointed, because I thought I'd rested it enough since I first did it, during last Sunday's HM. Looks like I may fall short of my monthly running target now, which is a shame.

Total running for the month: 86.9 km
(Total walking for the month: 120.7 km)

I got to thinking today during my how-many-miles-can-I-squeeze-into-my-lunch-hour treadmill run ... I can't help but think that running at race(ish) pace most days is intended to make me a faster runner, so I can fit more quarter-miles into my lunch hour, so I can have a stronger base, so I can be a faster runner. I push in some way almost every day (except weekends, which are for long and easy). I need to really go back and read this thread again (it might take days, lol) because I distinctly recall the strong consensus being don't train at race pace. I guess I tend to train at race pace (of some kind) four days and go easy two days - I am hard on myself when I run (like a loud, overly enthusiastic high school track coach in the middle of the straight-away) and thought this was the way I was supposed to organize my running. How can slowing myself down make me a better runner? (stream of consciousness - sorry - I know you guys have covered this topic, and I will re-read)
@JoRocka‌ - not lame. next month, you'll kill it, and it'll be awesome. ;)

I'm down to six miles left - barring injury or massive, daily hangovers in LV, I think I'll make it!

The fates conspired to keep me home, but I ran anyway. Probably should have listened to the fates. I was achy everywhere and it felt like I was running in waist high water for most of my run. Pushed out two miles in the time I can usually do three but the masochist in me is thinking of another run this evening (I really love my new shoes).

Out of curiosity, how many miles does one put on their shoes before giving them a proper burial (with eulogy and 21 gun salute of course)?

The "rough guide" for shoes with padding/compression materials is 300 miles/3 months- ish.

Had a child home sick from school yesterday so made up for my missed run today......a messy 5km from home! Tried a different route and found it wasn't long enough so ended up back tracking in parts and looping round and round others......seemed much longer when I've driven it :/

Taking 10 days away put me 50+ miles behind goal. I could run 62 miles in the next 4 days but I'd wreck myself, so I will not do it. The whole point to dropping the streak was getting back to running for the joy of running. I'm going to miss my goal- but it was worth it.

    __Date___ Miles
    Mar 1 ___ 3.5am 7°F + 6.1pm 26°F + strength training
    Mar 2 ___ 5.7 with friends + 3.6 alone
    Mar 3 ___ 1.4 streak + strength training
    Mar 4 ___ 5.1 with friend + 3.5 alone
    Mar 5 ___ 2.3 + strength training
    Mar 6 ___ 8.8am alone + 4.6pm w/friend
    Mar 7 ___ 3.1
Mar 8 ___ 12.5 cloudy, then snowy, then sunny all in the same run
Mar 9 ___ 6.0 w/friends (& another 1.4 with my youngest not included in total.)
    Mar 10 __ 3.1+ strength training
    Mar 11 __ 5.8 + Yoga
    Mar 12 __ 2.2 + strength training
    Mar 13 __ 7.1 + Yoga ***halfway to goal***
    Mar 14 __ 4.6
    Mar 15 __ 1.5 last run for the streak- 203days 1265.6miles (6.2 miles/day)
    Mar 25 __ 6.2 + 1
    Mar 27 __ 6.1

    Month total= 103.7 running miles __61.3 remaining

@TwelveSticks‌ - I hope your calf is nothing serious! Icing and foam rolling might help?
@4leighbee‌ - yes, the consensus was slower training runs for faster races. I don't think it means never run fast and push yourself, just that the majority should be slower than race pace.
@notafatty33‌ - for me it depends on the shoe. Lighter 'natural' shoes won't last as long as heavier road or trail shoes. I usually look to start switching out my old regular road shoes around 400 miles and my natural racing flats around 250-300 miles. I never just switch - I gradually phase in my new shoes and phase out my old.
@ShortMrsN‌ - I am always surprised how/long short some distances are until I actually run or measure it on my mapping app :)
@fabnine‌ - running for yourself because you love it is what it is all about - the challenge is not so important, just gives us a base to all talk about something we love and gets us out the door when we need it to!

3/27 3 miles. I am wondering when I will learn that I really benefit from foam rolling my calves before I go out. I would think I would have gotten the hint by now. Oh well! Only 1 more mile until I hit my goal. Yay!
