Good morning! I have flip flopped and flip flopped. I am now tired of being FAT and want to be motivated and determined to change. I made a sign to keep in front of me "Failure is not an option". I come to you this morning to ask how did you begin your exercise routine? In an hour I will be going to the gym to ride the stationary bike. I need to work my full body and don't want to over/under do my exercising. I really want to focus on losing my stomach. Thank you for any ideas you may have!

Have a great day!

I started by resolving to always take a walk on a nice day. The key is to move. Do something every day. It doesn't matter how fast or far you go or what you're toning or not (at least at first). What matters is that you're not sitting on the couch eating potato chips.

Im just starting too. I started with just walking around my neighborhood as well, but i live in Oregon where it rains a lot so walking outside isn't always doable so i got a gym membership. Focusing on cardio and increasing my stamina, and adding in some weight lifting and different weight machines too.

Another thing that can be motivating is wearing a pedometer. You want one that has tri-axis rather than a pendulum(?). When I can't get out, I use an exercise mat in the house to jog or walk in place. It seems a bit silly at first, but, it's movement and that's good for you.

When you're just starting out, walking is probably the easiest way to get started and burn extra calories. If your gym has a pool, swimming is another great exercise.

As you get comfortable doing more walking, consider adding strength training.

I'm not a big fan of group exercise, but some people love group exercise like zumba or cardio dance. Just aim for a beginners class!
