Coffee!!!

Hey, guys!
I'm somewhat of a caffiene addict (terrible, I know) but between working two jobs and going to college full time, sometimes I need a little extra kick to help get me through the day! However, I usually drink starbucks and don't want all the extra calories, two times a day. I don't drink black coffee so that's not really an option for me. Does anyone have good homemade coffee drink recipes, or even better, a way to just slowly stop drinking coffee so often all together? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Yep....boil kettle, pour onto coffee, add milk, done
I'm English and I don't get this American thing about creamers, half and half (whatever that is) and so on. We just add milk! It's not many calories, and still tastes like coffee.
I'm a mum of three young kids and a teacher, believe me I drink plenty of coffee.0 -
Honestly, just drink black coffee. But if you want to make a healthy coffee flavored drink, add skim milk and artificial sweetener to taste. This also makes good iced coffee.
You can order this at fivebucks too.0 -
It's all relative.
Buy a good decaff instant and put a splash of milk or coconut or almond milk. If you have 2/3 a day it's a delicious treat. You'll soon forget about the 'desserts' you used to spend a fortune on at Starbucks.0 -
Try a flavored coffee and experiment with the dosage. In the mornings I make a strong blend. Later in the day, I tend to water it down a tad. Still have the flavor, but without the strength. Keeps me going while on the road. I make enough for two thermos bottles and it saves me a load of cash.0

Thanks all!0

I'm a computer geek, so drinking coffee and lots of it is almost part of my job description.
I drink skinny lattes if I'm buying coffee. Not as creamy as some options, but with all that milk in compensates for the lack of cream.
At home I buy really good quality coffee and make it half water and half skimmed milk.
The thing is to try and find a coffee you really like the taste of, so then you won't need lots of sugar/syrup/cream. And make the milk the healthiest you can.0 -
I drink a lot of coffee too and I eased my way into drinking it black. When I started, I always added cream and sugar, but eventually cut the sugar and just used a flavored creamer (which is still full of sugar), but then eventually switched to just skim milk, and now I drink it black.0

Small/tall hazelnut coffee with a bit of skim milk. ~12-50 calories. My go to used to be a tall skinny hazelnut latte, 110-120 calories, but I'm trying to get away from all the milk/calories.0

I enjoy a milk and honey latte every now and then. But learning to enjoy it black is always a good idea. Good coffee makes a huge difference!0

Maybe not immediately, but it's a good long term goal. Up to 3 cups of coffee per day is fine, the problem is all the stuff people put into it. So try to very slowly work your way toward black coffee.
One day maybe you'll look back and wonder how you used to drink coffee with all that disgusting stuff added into it!0 -

High five.
I still have no idea what on earth a coffee creamer is.
OP, I can't see any reason a coffee shop coffee has to be calorie laden unless you get one of those sickly dessert coffee monstrosities.
Even Starbucks does a bearable cappuccino.
Or how about one of these...

Or get yourself a cafetiere and make some nice coffee at home.0 -
I drink 16 ounces of coffee with a tablespoon or two of half and half. I drink that 4-6 times a day. The last one might be decaf or might be flavored. I alternate with 16 oz of water and drink 32 ounces of water during my workouts at the gym. (Yesterday I drank 104 ounces of water.)
Caffeine is only a problem if you have some kind of heart rhythm problem. If you don't have a cardiologist, you can have all the caffeine you want.0 -
I had the same opinion about black coffee. Eventually I switched to 2% milk with artificial sweetener to save calories, but then just said screw it and tried it black. I really didn't like it black at first, but now I actually dislike my coffee with anything in it. That was 3 years ago I made the switch. When I go to starbucks I just get the Pike's Place brew black. My favourite!
Give it a try! Good quality coffee really tastes awesome all on its own.0 -
Just learn to drink coffee like an adult and don't put anything in it.0

I add splenda and cream to my coffee for a whopping 60 cals per cup I've worked down from ~4 cups a day to just 1 cup right away in the morning. I just kept cutting out my latest cup of coffee until I just had the wake-up cup left. I found that drinking coffee til 4 or 5 pm made it pretty hard to get to sleep at midnight, haha.0

You can use a flavored coffee creamer for about 35 calories. Add a packet of sweetener if not sweet enough. I love the bailey's.0
-
Americano with lots of nonfat milk is one of my staples. Especially iced because it takes the edge off the strong taste.0
-
I take my coffee with just a splash of milk and no sugar. Try decreasing the amount of creamer/sugar you add a little at a time. I'm sure you will get used to it over time. Good luck!0

Thanks all for your input!! Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. never really thought about getting just a better quality coffee to drink black!0

Coffee...the magic word. I'm totally addicted to coffee, I drink 5 cups daily of Colombian coffee beans made by Turkish way. I like it without any additions or sugar, only coffee!!0

When I was in the military, most coffee available out in the field was just black instant coffee - so I got used to drinking it black, and have ever since. So my coffee essentially is just water with a handful of calories, I don't even think about the quantity I drink; except for protein shakes, I drink as few calories as possible, as solid food calories are much more filling.0

I have black coffee 9 times out of 10. But once in a while I'll make a latte with a moka pot. I usually use whole milk, sometimes 2%. Froth the milk with a little $3 battery operated milk frother...but you can use a french press to froth just as easily, or a jar. No sugar. If I want it sweet...sometimes I do, sometimes I don't...I'll add stevia. If I really want to get "fancy", I'll add unsweetened cocoa powder first and make a mocha.0

I reserve about a half cup of milk for coffee every day--when the milk is gone, the coffee is done. I generally use about two tablespoons of milk in a cup of coffee, plus sweetener. I'm not European, but I don't "get" the whole high-calorie dessert-type coffee, either.
Where does one find a battery-operated milk frother? It sounds interesting for days that I have extra calories--I do miss having the odd cafe au lait.0 -
I add unsweetened cashew milk and Equal to my coffee. Negligible added calories, but still creamy and sweet, like I like it. I greatly prefer the cashew milk over almond milk--the almond flavor can be quite strong when hot, but the cashew flavor blends quite nicely. Sometimes I'll use coconut milk. It blends nicely, but it is a bit higher calorie.0

I LOVE coffee but I hate spending all the money on Starbucks and it's sooo many cals/sugar. So I will allow myself a treat (on Saturdays) a Starbuck's Iced coffee (w/white mocha and toffee nut).
During the week..
Brew my own starbucks. I use International's caramel creamer fat free/sugar free (aka chemicals) but it's only 15 calories for 15 grams (mls) and I'll add 10 grams of fat free whipped cream if I'm feeling risky. It's not AS good but it gets me through.
There is a paleo creamer recipe but it's not as sweet unless you're adding raw sugar or honey/agave. Also, Trader Joe's has some pretty decent tasting, healthy (1-2 ingredient) creamers as well.
I love my coffee.0 -
I totally know how you feel! I definitely drink 3-4 cups of coffee per day, mostly black with some milk added. I love drinking a cup of black coffee before a morning work out too, It gives me a great burst of energy to get going!
I slowly transitioned to drinking my coffee black too. If I am going to buy myself coffee at a coffee shop I will treat myself with steamed milk on top. I recommend starting with americanos! You can add flavor and milk to them, but since they are made with water you will save on the extra calories. After some time try it without any sweetener. I love getting an americano with steamed soy on top. If I am at home like others have mentioned I will buy good quality coffee and it tastes so good black. You can do it!0 -
I dropped cream in my coffee almost 2 years ago, there are days I do add a splash but most times I drink it black it's not something most people can just switch to if you like the cream and sugar but the higher quality coffee really is good black.
I didn't see anyone else mention this but molasses is a good addition to coffee, love to mix some in when the coffee is hot and then pour over ice later in the day, adds a sweetness that sugar, honey and flavored creamers can't reproduce.
I also make up my own cappucino mix, recipes are all over the net. When ordering out I always opt for the skinny versions, because that's what I like but it's all personal preference. If you like your coffee, it fits in your day then why worry about it as long as you're drinking straight up water too and not just all day coffee.0 -
When you do go to Starbucks I recommend the tall skinny vanilla latte. Really good and only 100 calories. Not bad comparatively.0
-
I'm a coffee addict too. Why do You want to quit? Powdered creamer is 10 calories per teaspoon and one packet of splenda is how I drink mine.0
