Good morning, don't get discouraged. The tools in My Fitness Pal will really help you. Logging into the food diary everything you eat and drink each day will help you stay on track. When you journal what you eat, it helps keep you on track your daily calorie requirements and you can see what you're eating and how many calories, carbs, fat, sodium, etc. are in the foods. It will help you make wise choices in what you eat. Also, I would attempt to walk as much as you can, it will help you. Best of luck to you, when you make up your mind to do it, you can do anything!

^^^ This definitely......It was logging and logging accurately that led me to realize what foods were doing....and how bad choices for a few days here and there means you can add calories fast.....its learning to understand food / calories and intake that has helped me the most.....look for some low impact exercises on Youtube too to help get you moving until the pain eases...and walk as much as you can.......

    Welcome!

A great post/thread to check out is: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

A few things I've found that helps me:
    1. Log everything. This means weighing your food (it's more accurate than using cups). Prelogging can also be really helpful in determining how many calories you have left for the day.
    2. If you're looking to simply lose weight, it's done in the kitchen. The basic principle of "CICO" or Calories In/Calories Out applies. The above link will go into that and also discuss macro and micro nutrients.
    3. Find exercise/activity that YOU enjoy. It'll make getting active much easier if it's something you really enjoy doing. Some people don't like gyms or running...some people really enjoy swimming or playing team sports. Find what works for you.
    4. Be kind to yourself. Weight loss is not linear. It took you a while to gain weight, it'll take you a while to lose it.
    5. You said you love eating - don't feel you have to deprive yourself or cut things you love out of your diet entirely. Personally, I make room for things I absolutely love... like burgers and chocolate.

Have you seen a doctor regarding your joints and the pain?

Good luck. Feel free to add me as a friend.
