I am just wondering if I am now eating more food following MFP then I was before on a daily basis, is it possible that at first I might actually gain some weight before I start to drop the weight?

do you mean more calories or just larger volumes/amounts of food?0

As long as you are within your calorie goal, you should not be gaining. Might need to readjust your goals or add some exercise in0

Also you have to make sure that you are eating enough so your body isn't going into starvation mode and keeping everything that you eat!!0

Starvation mode = myth
What moon_child said. Calorie deficit is weight loss. Calorie surplus is weight gain. It's about expending more calories (thru movement + bodily functions... TDEE) than you take in. Adjust your food intake and/or adjust your movement.0
