I am just wondering if I am now eating more food following MFP then I was before on a daily basis, is it possible that at first I might actually gain some weight before I start to drop the weight?

do you mean more calories or just larger volumes/amounts of food?

As long as you are within your calorie goal, you should not be gaining. Might need to readjust your goals or add some exercise in :)
  • Also you have to make sure that you are eating enough so your body isn't going into starvation mode and keeping everything that you eat!! :)

    Starvation mode = myth

What moon_child said. Calorie deficit is weight loss. Calorie surplus is weight gain. It's about expending more calories (thru movement + bodily functions... TDEE) than you take in. Adjust your food intake and/or adjust your movement.
