Do you count raw fruits/veggies in meals?

I don't do Weight Watchers, but I know they don't count raw fruits and vegetables in their points system. I was wondering if any of you skip raw fruits and vegetables when you list what you ate. I mean, they ARE calories, so how can you not count them? I'm just wondering what others are doing. Thanks!

I count mine. If you want to look at all nutritional values you want to add it. There's little calories for them, but big on the good stuff.

I count them. I like to see every calorie too, plus I feel good looking back on my diary knowing I got my veggie need for the day

I only count them if I eat them....otherwise, how would I be able to account for the calories I take in?

My best friend does weight watchers, and it's my biggest peeve that she doesn't have to count fruit and vegetables - even really sugary fruits like bananas and mangoes, which are relatively high in calories, she says are zero points!

Personally, I log everything that I eat - all fruit and vegetables etc. I think if you're calorie counting you need to, because, as you said, they may not have a ww value, but they still have a calorific value....

I count everything I eat because I try to only take supplements when I don't fulfill my daily requirements with whole foods.

I count everything! Some fruits are higher in calories than you might think...i.e., peaches. Didn't realize that until I started using MFP.

yeah, i count everything. I need to stay on top of my sugars, and fruits and veggies still have sugar ... i'm certainly not going to deprive myself of fruits and veggies, but i want to keep my sugars reasonable so i like to know where i'm at. If I eat a banana, an apple and a few baby carrots *boom* there goes my sugar allotment for the day!

    suckage :(

Absolutely.. that's how I discovered I was having way too much sugar in my diet. I now limit (or am attempting to limit) my fruits per day.

Yep. I can easily eat over 100 calories of veggies in one meal. Fruit has even more calories - most fruit is *not* particularly low calorie. A banana is about 100 cals, for example.

yep! some fruits like bananas are super nutritious, but can have up to 110 calories. a few of those a day can make a difference.

ALWAYS. A calorie is a calorie. WW just tries to make it more simple to create daily goals and although their new plan has improved in that in considers carbs and protein, ignoring the sugar levels in fruits (since you should have only 2 servings a day regardless of the fact it is a more natural sugar) and the fiber and nutrients in vegetables is silly.

If you are going to take the time to log on MFP, log EVERYTHING. I log gum and spices too!

Weight Watcher's daily goal is different than the daily calorie goal on this site. The points that WW gives takes into account that people will be eating fruits and vegetables and not counting them. WW does have a disclaimer that says not to over indulge in fruits and vegetables, because that can hamper weight loss.

So, on this site, where my calories are set for me with the assumption that I will count fruits and vegetables, I count them.
  • I agree with you. I was thinking the same with bananas and mangoes and such. Maybe that would work for WW people at first, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, and they are near the end of losing weight, I would think that would back fire. Thanks for answering. :)
  • Thanks, everybody, I agree with all of you that every calorie should be counted. I think it could be a gimmick from WW to get people to join. I appreciate everyone's input! :)

I count every calorie. And if there are two... one saying 50 and one saying 25... If there isn't a real clear way to distinguish... I take the higher one. I'd rather be off in that direction.

Funny - I just tweeted that I had an afternoon snack of 3 dried figs and 3 dried prunes (counted them all, as I mentioned) and I feel like I ate half a cake.

    Crazy!

I count everything. When I was on WW I didn't and I see now that it's a must; there is no such thing as FREE foods.

I list them. They have nutrients besides calories.
  • I count EVERYTHING!! Fruits & veggies have calories and fiber!! I list everything I eat, and if I've gone over my calories (rarely) I up the exercise!! Good Luck-I'm here if you need motivation...LisaMariaCallow
