Gaining weight but doing everything right?

I don't carry my scale around with me. I do weigh my food that I eat at home or pack in a lunch. Nothing wrong with that. 24 lbs lost so far...yay me.0

Okay, I'm trying to tell you guys, that I'm not over eating. That's it. But you're all pretty much insisting that I am despite me repeatedly telling you that I am 100% certain I am not.
What do you want me to do? Please just tell me straight up exactly what you think I should do and I'll try it. I will. But I'm not over eating, I can log my food to a T on this site but the outcome isn't going to be over eating. I'm stuck. I can't lose anything and I am 6 pounds heavier than my goal for yesterday so yes that upset me and I'm so so so sorry that you guys cannot see that. I've been overweight my entire life, I finally started losing and got almost halfway there, I've given up so many unhealthy foods and have been exercising and trying so hard and gained weight and that made me feel like absolute *kitten*. Monday morning was spent crying over the scale because I was hungry and tired and I coke here for help and support and all I get is judgement.
I really don't understand what you're looking for. If you're 100% certain that you are way under your calories, then you need to see your doctor to find out what is wrong with you. Either there is something physically wrong that makes you have a much lower BMR than expected, or there is something wrong with your logging of either your food or exercise, or you have miscalculated your BMR. There really aren't any other options.0 -

You either have Celiac Disease, which is an autoimmune disease, or you don't. It's not like you can just have a slight version of celiac disease you either have it or you don't. Gluten is a sticky protein and when people with celiac disease consume it it triggers an autoimmune reaction in their body. People with it can get serious damage to their villi in their intestine. If you feel like you may truly have Celiac Disease you need to ask your doctor for a blood test to see. If you feel like maybe you are having a slight reaction when consuming wheat products you should go and get allergy testing done. Also please don't say that you are allergic to gluten and then eat it in front of others because it causes a real problem for people where it is medical necessary for them stick to a gluten free diet.

Coming from all the issues my wife has dealt with, I would highly disagree with your statement that there is no such thing as a gluten allergy. To assume such is rather narrow minded, IMO. There are plenty of people who do not favorably respond to gluten products, and the includes items outside of wheat. I know this because my wife has the same reaction to soy sauce or certain bbq sauces as she does with bread, which is extreme lethargy, GI discomfort and skin irritation. In fact, when she was using shampoos that were derived from gluten products, she had dry and irritated scalp. We know this after working with an Endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, electrophysiologist, POTS specialist and other cardiologist. My wife has a medical condition called POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). And according to several of her specialist, about 50% of people with POTS, benefit from a gluten free and low carb diet. Sadly, it took a few years to figure out all of this. The moment she went gluten free, her stomach pains went away and she stopped taking naps. Additionally, once we switched shampoos, the irritation subsided. On top of that, she tested negative for IBS, celiac, Crohns and more.
So while the OP might not have a so called allergy, maybe it's more accurate to say sensitivity. Who knows, the whole gluten thing is rather new in terms of research. And it will continue to change as more information is available. But one thing is for certain, people react different ways to different food items. I know people who have issues with strawberries, red meat, dairy and a variety of other foods.
Having said all of that, I would recommend that OP start tracking her calories on MFP. This way, we can make a more educated recommendation. It's also potential that she does not follow the standard algorithms and might have to adjust her calories lower. But that is hard to say without a solid food diary.
As someone with Celiac disease, and who is sympathetic to fellow gluten sufferers, may I just say that you might have misunderstood her point?
There is Celiac disease, and then there are food allergies. Your wife might be allergic to wheat. She might be allergic to barley. She might be allergic to both. (Or she might be Celiac) That is very slightly different to being allergic to gluten. Eliminating gluten would certainly fix the allergy though.0 -

Are you looking for people to confirm that you are doing everything right but gaining weight?
If you tell people what you are willing to hear, regardless of what useful advice they might have, you could probably save some time.0 -
What do you want me to do? Log on here? Okay, fine, I will log on here rather than on paper if it really means that much to all of you. Then what? I'm not going over my calories... so... after I spend 2 weeks logging everything and you guys see that I don't over eat what will your advice be because that's what is going to happen.
I'm frustrated because I'm trying to explain to all of you that I'm staying within my calorie goal and nobody wants to listen. And nobody can stand to squeeze out an ounce of encouragement either. When I talk to someone who is having a hard time because they've given up all the food they love to feel better and lose weight and they can't lose I don't yell at them and call them mentally ill or stupid, I don't make them feel like they're going overboard, I try and make them feel better. Confidence helps everything and people on this site just can't seem to stop ripping it from my hands.

Here is what all of you wanted so so so badly. Here is a page of my log book. http://imgur.com/BG2Vsm4
Tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can fix it.
I honestly think it's really funny that a lot of you think I have severe emotional issues. And also its pretty hilarious you think I don't want any help. I came here for help, but none of you believe that I'm logging calories right. I've told you several times so I give up now. Go on and keep telling me the same thing over and over again and being judgemental, it's just funny now. Lol.0 -
The chicken is unweighed and there is no indication of what kind of chicken it is. The BBQ sauce on it is mystery food. As is the blueberry pie. There is no package of Lays chips that comes in at 300 calories, and there is no weight, which means you're guessing.
The prosecution rests - you're eating more than you think - bang the gavel - court is adjourned.

WEIGH your food. Using cups and measuring spoons are not accurate measurements. And a lot of your log doesn't even contain those measurements..0

yeah not true at all. I have an allergist documented allergy to gluten, as well as wheat, barley and oat. If I eat these (or food I eat has come in contact with them) my throat swells shut and I could die. I do not have celiacs, I have an actual allergy. People can be allergic to anything, some are just more common than others.
Please don't spread false information. It can be dangerous.0 -
Have we lost the OP?0

From what I can tell, there is a lot of guessing in that food list. Like others have said, you have to break down all the ingredients and weigh them. I made myself a hamburger yesterday: I have a weight of meat, the brand of bun (using the handy MFP scanning tool), and the tomato. This would have been a lot more work trying to do it by hand. Why would I do that when MFP makes it so easy? I think we have some miscalculated logging going on here. And perhaps some denial as well?0
-
Will you guys stop being so judgmental?0

Sigh0

There are quite a few helpful (and patient) people here trying to point the OP in the right direction. Barring a medical condition, there are very few possibilities besides inaccurate logging resulting in overconsumption. Often the simplest answer is the correct one. For sure, it's the place to start.0
-
And can we ask where the OP is getting her calorie information from to write on that paper? Who decided the calories of blueberry pie, six meatballs, and a chicken sandwich?0
-
Poster, if you accurately logged in your journal everything, then take some time and load it on here. Or, start loading everything you eat here on MPF. It not only does calories but it tells you fat, carb and protein, as well as sodium and other things. I doubt you do that on your own.
I think you are scared to see a computer program take what you are eating and tell you the truth of what you are eating. And log all exercises in your diary. Leave it open and you will get some hones input here. You may not hear what you like, but you might hear things that will help you face the reality of what you are probably doing which is eating too much and not burning enough. CICO.
It really is that simple.0 -
OP you are eating too much, and you are logging inaccurately. Plain and simple.
If you were losing weight guesstimating your portion sizes/weight as you are doing now, then there wouldn't be an issue and you wouldn't have to weigh your food.
But as it stands, you are not losing weight, for obvious reasons, so you have no other choice but to weigh your food.
And by the way, you are the ONLY one who keeps bring up mental health issues.... :huh:0 -
Why would you not want to have a computer program keep track of all of this and put it in statistical format and in pie charts? It measures against your goals. You can so easily spot where you are missing your goals. I just don't get choosing pencil and paper when you have this MFP at your disposal that you are already using for the forum????????? It just does not make sense except you don't want to really see what the results are from what you are eating. And I understand that. It sucked for me at first, but I quickly saw that there it was in black and white and it was really hard to dispute the results IF IF IF I was accurately logging EVERYTHING.0

Maybe reason #11 applies to the OP and she should take it up with her Doctor. Otherwise chances are that one of the other 10 reasons will apply: http://www.acaloriecounter.com/blog/why-am-i-not-losing-weight/0

Okay this is my last time responding on this thread. No just no. This is not true. You may have a severe wheat allergy but there have been NO documented cases of a gluten allergy! Most definitely no record of anyone going into anaphylactic shock from the consumption of gluten. This is a complete lie. That is all.0 -
It is so much easier logging your food here, it figures everything out for you, plus you get the bonus of knowing your daily macros.
Writing everything down on paper is much more difficult and inaccurate, and it also gives you the chance to write whatever you want, and apply whichever values you may feel like putting in at the time0 -
I've already said my first bit earlier.
But also, I am not going to assume that you have weighed and accurately logged. If that is the case, it may be time for a diet break as you have lost a fair amount of weight already. Your metabolism will slow down when you are eating under TDEE. Larger deficits and longer time periods will slow the metabolism more.
I'd up your calories to just under theoretical TDEE (BW in lbs x13 ish) for 2 weeks and then move back into a deficit after.0
