Eat a calorie deficit, weigh all your food so you know how much you're eating, understand that weight loss isn't linear so don't get upset if you don't lose for a week or two, and don't completely restrict yourself with what you eat - you're fine to eat anything as long as it's in your calories!0
-
Then educate yourself and learn how it works and what you have to do.
Get knowledge
Get the right mindset
Make a plan
Implement plan through being at a consistent calorific defict by eating less and moving more.
= Lose weight.

Only you can do it. This thread will give great advice but only you can do the work http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p10

Judy... I'm sorry that the very first person to reach out to you felt the need to check your spelling/word error. Some have nothing better to do than to point out the errors of others. You get that a lot around here. Whether you want to loose it or lose it this is a great site. You get out of it what you put in though. Gather some friends, you may request me if you like, and ask questions. Forums get you a whole lot of responses... you just gotta have a thick skin and take the good with the bad. Good luck to you!0

I will never understand this mentality. If you're doing something wrong, why one Earth wouldn't you want someone to point it out to you? Would you rather carry on being wrong? If you were at the gym using a machine wrong, would you not want someone to tell you? For example, I used to be one of those people that said defiantly instead of definitely. I am eternally grateful to the person that pointed it out to me.
I now wish I had something useful to say for the OP so it didn't look like I was trying to completely derail the thread, but everything I could think of to say I said in my other post or has been said by other people...0 -
Judy, Plenty of good folks who are willing to help out. Is there something specific you need help with ?0

I agree. You can't learn if you don't know you made a mistake.
That works for all aspects of life, including weight loss.
OP: the first thing about losing weight is creating a calorie deficit. Log all of your food accurately (meaning you need to weigh out solids and measure liquids). Aim for the net calories that MFP calculated for you (assuming you input your data correctly). Try that for a few weeks, then assess your progress.
I'm going to second the "sexypants" link.0 -

Going out on a limb here but I would say from my observations that most folks who land here on MFP for the first time and are desperate for help would have no idea what that means.0 -
