Another good source of fiber: broccoli rabe.
On Monday night, I made a recipe from Skinnytaste that I love: Orecchiette with Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Rabe (skinnytaste.com/2011/04/orecchiette-with-chicken-sausage-and.html if anybody's interested).
Anyway....we had it for dinner Monday night, and I gave leftovers to my husband for lunch on Tuesday. On Tuesday night I heard him call out from the bathroom, "YOU CANNOT GIVE ME BROCCOLI RABE TWO DAYS IN A ROW!!!"
Oops. Foods just don't effect me quite as strongly as they do him, my delicate flower.0 -
Hahahah. Oh my gosh! Funny stuff! (: I'll have to try that out! Yummy! Thanks for the recipe!!0

I thought that recipe was soooo gross. So did my family. broccoli rabe is like argula and broccoli *kitten* bitter child. Yuck!
Broccoli is delish. I want some with Mac and cheese now0 -
Broccoli rabe is one of those "love it or hate it" veggies for sure. I'm going to be 50 next month and have just recently developed a taste for it.
I like broccoli but I think it's a sin to ruin a good mac & cheese with it. I prefer mine with bacon!0 -
Thanks! Smart program! I can tell you it works because I've lost 15lbs since November just by using the food diary and making sure I do at least 10000 steps every day. Of course, some days require more steps to burn off the snack food that I sometimes don't realize I've eaten until it's time to record in the diary.0

Wait, is it Christmas already?? Who is this shiny new person, and can we keep her??
OP, you have the right attitude and openness to do brilliantly here (oh and please call MrM mean, he suffers terrible withdrawals if it doesn't happen at least once a day).0 -
Something is wrong with my Internet. everyone seems to be acting nice0

I kept reading and all I thought is everyone should be getting cussed out by now lol0 -
Whenever a thread like this goes over one page in length, I always expect a trainwreck of butthurt. What a breath of fresh air!0

OP, welcome to the common sense side of MFP. Those of us who live over here trust the numbers rather than the hype and actually think about what others say so we can learn. Sometimes the advice fits for us as an individual, and sometimes it doesn't but we don't get all bent out of shape about it. We also don't believe that anything is an absolute must (well, except getting a food scale and weighing and measuring and logging). No absolutism here.
Oh, if you don't eat much fiber now, build up slowly. Your intestinal tract will thank you for it.0 -
Awesome. Thank you all!(: I'll get the hang of this site soon.. Hopefully lol! It's a little confusing now. Thanks for the advice & saving me my money (:0

No, no, you are being GOOD!!!! Old-timers around here just have dealt with lots of newbies who ask a question wanting a specific answer and then, when someone tells them something they don't want to hear, they get all huffy. For example,
Huffy OP Q: If I drink bilge water from the bottom of my father's boat, is that good for weight loss?
Random helpful A: No, bilge water is usually quite dirty and may contain heavy metals and other things that may be toxic. The only way it would encourage weight loss is through making you sick which is not a healthy or sustainable way to lose weight.
Huffy OP: Why are you all being mean? I thought this site was supposed to be supportive. I'm going to report your answer as cruel and then I'm going to quit MFP because you all are so mean.
So, Misskenzie, consider yourself complimented for your wise level-headedness.
you>>0 -
Lol! Thanks for the example. Made me smile.. Pretty funny!(: & I'm glad I shocked everyone in a good way being nice (:0

seriously, you win.
And, it does not escape me that you saw the truth-telling posts as kindness...which is how they are ALWAYS intended. They get called "mean" and "blunt," but I applaud you for seeing them as they are meant -- wanting you to succeed and be healthy and not waste money on nonsense!
Your good attitude tells me that you are very likely to find success as you get fitter...welcome to MFP!0 -
Thanks! (: I actually tried on all my size 7 jeans today & I fit!!! I usually wear a 9.. I can't ever pull my 7s over my thighs.. I'm very proud of starting a healthy lifestyle & having such helpful, motivating people to talk to here! All of your useful tips will make me go even further. While were all talking.. Anyone know how to get rid of love handles? That's my main issue.0

An OP that is reasonable and listens to advice! Oh my Lord! OP... I think I love you It's few and far between that when asked for advice, people listen to what is posted and don't have a counter argument or start calling people mean. You should call us all a*holes to balance out the equilibrium and restore order.
Just kidding.
Good luck to you!!!0 -

Congrats on your NSV (non-scale victory)!!!
Rereading your original post, you have good instincts and common sense (you already suspected that the tea-tox was bunk). Trust them and you will reach your goals.

Congrats on the NSV. I know how amazing it is to be a size down on something.
As for the love handles, I don't believe there is one specific way to get rid of excess fat on a particular area of the body. This is a link that might be of some value to you: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1161603/so-you-want-a-nice-stomach/p1

I don't understand what's happening here? Am I in the Twilight Zone? Why is OP being so accepting of the truth and willing to listen to others who know what they're talking about?
OP...I LOVE YOU! You're awesome. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be just fine!0 -
Thanks for the link! I'll check it out. I'm going for a jog with my little one right now. Trying to get rid of these ugly side handles lol(: & thanks elemopeeZ!(: I don't see why people would ask a question & lash back at replies. You guys were nice enough to stop by & type some advice taking some time out of your day.. I really appreciate the feedback from everyone.0

Yea, seriously. I don't appreciate the OP being all receptive and reasonable.misskenzie63 wrote: »Lol alright. Well hopefully I don't run into a** h*****... so far so good!
Well, the thing is that those same type of responses you got many other have gotten and they start crying that everyone is mean and unsupportive.
In order to not cause some sort of imbalance in the MFP Equilibrium you should at least call someone in the thread mean. You must do it. ........
I am not the OP but "that was so mean"...jeez...making fun with gifs...so mean.
now hopefully the MFP Equilibrium is good as gold.0 -
I have it on good authority that MrM is mean because he does not give Leo unlimited treats, and he sometimes takes breaks from giving him belleh rubs to do things like lift or save New Yorkers from their sometimes questionable life decisions.0
