@mmabry72 - Yea! Look at you go!! Great job! Those miles make you feel soooo good!
@Timby1 - you too! You are doing an awesome job!
I have to say I love your excitement and that you are enjoying running and your accomplishments so much!
@dawnna76 - why are you running a marathon if it isn't something you really want to do or love doing? Maybe you need to just run for the pure fun/joy of it rather than make yourself go after some racing goal. you could still go after the marathon goal once you decided it was something you really enjoyed and wanted to do. I love weight lifting and seeing my gains there but I also love running and the freedom and release it gives me. I also love to eat and it allows me to do that :) I hope you get back to where it is enjoyable again at least.
@4leighbee - hope you are ok and back running soon!
@SBRRepeat - I love it! I think those girls are so lucky to have Coach Sarah! I will be looking up the organization - sounds wonderful!

Why do it? so i can say to myself I did. the fat me still tells the fitter me that I am not worthy. i find differenet challenges and do them. if i didnt try different things I would never learn what I like and dont like, goes for fitness as well as foods, jobs, etc.

I have always did some running, completeing a handfull or two halfs, a bunch of 10ks and 5ks. thought I would shoot for a marathon. when training for smaller events running never became a job like it has when training for this marathon. its like a i have a 2nd job that I work part time with a naggy boss. after all these months, whatever fun that was for me running there has been sucked out and hench the hating the running now. but I stick to my goals and follow through.

Any distance can be a beast to train for. After my marathon Saturday, I'm training for a 5k. I'll be putting in the same high mileage but with lots of speedwork. A marathon is no more of a challenge than a well-trained 5k.

    +1
This is a frustrating fallacy perpetuated in all the mags, online and even in some real-world running circles. The marathon (or the Ultra or the Tri ... whatever) is the top echelon. But ... in Track and Field, people don't say - "those 100M guys aren't doing nearly enough work! but wow look at those 2-milers. They must be the hard core athletes." The runs are just so different from one another and require totally different preparation, physical and mental. 5Ks are awesome and challenging in a very different way.

I agree and some are fantastic running a 5K and others don't shine until the longer marathon or greater distances. It is all about finding what you excel at and enjoy. 5ks are tough for me I just get going and it is over, 10ks are tolerable and halfs I love. Could I do a marathon, probably, do I have any desire to, not a bit.

Windy, hot and dry run today. Supposed to cool off over the weekend and into next week. Stayed on the paved trail today so I didn't end up blown into the river.

Interesting article on running by HR and keeping within an areobic HR zone. Some of it I agree with, some not so much, but the overall point on running slower makes sense to me and I think there is a place for both Aerobic training and Anaerobic training (HIIT). What do you all think?

    02/04 - 9.10km
    03/04 - 7.00km
    10/04 - 6.62km
    17/04 - 5.06km

I am seriously behind! School holidays combined with the end of daylight saving have meant not many chances to get out for a run...... by the time the husband gets home from work it is so close to dark.
Managed a quick 5km before I went to work this morning.... kids are back at school and kindy on Monday so should be able to get a few mere in by the end of the month.

@4leighbee - I remember reading that you were hurt that one day but don't remember reading that it was something that would keep you from running for a while. Sorry about that. Yes, this is a great group.

@SBRrepeat - that's so awesome! I know you are making a huge difference in their lives. I'm sure it is difficult but, like teaching, each day gets easier. I'm going to check it out in my area.

@dawnna76 - I'm amazed you are sticking with it if you hate it. I hated it when I was running too fast, but once I figured out to not worry about speed and just run slow I started loving it and now I am addicted. Speed is coming without me trying.

4/1 - Nice 3.1 miles on indoor track
4/2 - Brutal 4.75 miles of "hilly" treadmill
4/4 - 10 miles, nice mix of hills
    4/6 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/8 - 4 miles on indoor track (33:16...pretty speedy for me)
4/9 - Another hot, humid 5 miles on a "hilly" treadmill (Total 30.85/110)
    4/10 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/12 - 11 miles, on the windy side, but otherwise nice
    4/13 - 2 recovery miles - maybe should have skipped it...ouch!
4/14 - power outage = no alarm = unplanned rest
    4/15 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/16 - 5 miles on treadmill (nice mix of hills, tempo and a few short "sprints")
4/17 - 4 miles on indoor track; weather forecast is making the 12-miler for the weekend look difficult to get in :/
