Calorie deficit? How?
Hello...and welcome to MFP...used right this can give you the help you need.....
Eating at a deficit is all about maths...your body need so much energy to keep it alive in a day...that BMR.....then you have the energy you use......add the 2 to get TDEE....total daily energy expenditure....(or something like that..)......you can find your TDEE in many online calculators.....this is a good start to giving you a figure to eat each day to stay at the same weight you are now.....so...for instance...the calculator give you 2500 calories a day to eat to stay as you are......to lose weight you need to eat less than this amount....they say for every 3500 calories less you eat you will lose 1 lbs....so multiply your daily TDEE x 7 days a week....then subtract 3500 off that........to lose 1 lb a week......or take 500 calories off a day to hit the same figure....
It depends how you set your activity level too....how active are you, do you work, is it desk job, or do you run a round all day.......this can make a big difference to your settings...so choose wisely...
What MFP does is all the maths for you......so enter your stats...and set a weight loss goal.....usually between 0.5lbs a week to 2lbs a week if you have a lot to shift.....
Set your activity level accurately.......and MFP will give you a figure to eat each day.....
Now the hard work start.......to accurately work out your food intake it is best to weigh your food so you get a true figure for your food....be careful in the data base...some food are way off......
Log EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth...including condiments, butter, and drinks....and you will get a true picture of your daily intake....
The aim is to stick to your daily figure as close as possible......preferably under.....and see how it goes.....
If all settings are correct, wait a month or 2 first (patience is also very important..) and see if you are losing how you set it....if it less, take off 100 or 200 calories a day to make up a bit more.....
This is all you need to do to lose weight....
Adding exercise will give you a bigger daily burn of calories.....you enter these in MFP under the exercise bit....and it will give you some extra calories.....you can eat these calories...as you have burned them....but many advise only to eat 50 to 75% back as the figure may be over estimated...find something you like....and do it regular.....the advice says cardio is for your heart and health and *kitten*....and strength give you a top bod.......for me a mix of both helps......but I am doing more cardio work now...as I have many years of neglect to rectify first...lol
Patience........
It took a while to get as we are I presume you are the same.....so it wont all go overnight either.....be patient, logging accurately is the key....then you can understand the figures right.....and adjust accordingly once you get your head round the counting bit......
One big of bad news......you can't aim to just hit your belly fat....it will go from all places as you lose.....I am a41 yr old...that has had a LARGE beer belly for over 20 yrs.....and that is taking some shifting.....but its going...and so is the rest....
There are loads of very helpful stuff hidden in these lobby's...they can be fun to read but don't get too obsessed with the scales......
Knowing your changing your habits for the better, and understanding what your food intake is and does to you is the main thing.....
Good luck, hope you find your groove in here....feel free to add me but be warned I am a straight talking English man...and I say it like it is....if your eating 1000 cals a day over...then I will call you on it....lol.....
