What is up with this plateau?

So I started this weight loss goal on my birthday. I was 178. I got MFP, started counting my calories, and working out daily on the Your Shape 2012 for the Xbox kinect. At first I was dropping 1-2 lbs a day, until I hit 170. I was stuck there for about 3 weeks. I read about plateaus and figured it would pass and continued maintaining a 500 calorie deficit until I stared dropping again. I was really excited I got down as low as 162, then all of a sudden shot back up to 168! For the past few weeks I've just been yo-yoing between 164 and 168. I keep trying to eat less and excessive more. I'm burning an average of 400 calories per workout. My BMR is 1340, and now I'm keeping a deficit of around 550 calories. Why does it keep bouncing around like that? I just want to get down to 153, which is ideal weight for my height.

Do you weigh all your solid food on a food scale and measure all your liquids?0

Have an epic cheat day to get your leptin levels back to normal..your metabolism is slowed down..you'll wake up heavier, but it will go away in about 2-3 days..it's like taking one step back and two steps forward0

1-2 lbs a day weight loss would be water weight and not actual weight. the yo-yoing is probably water retention. the more you exercise the more your body needs fuel.how do you know that you are burning 400 calories? if you are going by the game its going to be inaccurate, the calories in those games are based on estimates.weight fluctuates as much as 10lbs at a time for some people. so the weight you are seeing is a fluctuation. weigh once a week and see if you notice a difference and weigh all solid foods(on a food scale) and measure all liquids.you also did not mention when you started, how long you are exercising for, and if the game is the only thing you are doing or not as well as if you are active or sedentary.0

1-2 lbs a day? Or do you mean week? If day, that's definitely just water weight. You didn't create a 7000 calorie deficit (meaning, under maintenance) per day, you just didn't.
What is your calorie target? Do you eat back exercise calories? Do you always hit your target? Do you log all your foods? Do you weigh your foods? Eating less and moving more is nice, but if you aren't really looking at what you're doing, you could be spinning your wheels, feeling like you're trying so hard, and not knowing why things are going the way they are. You need to log, and learn to log accurately, and consistently.
[Edited to Add: This isn't just because you might be getting no progress with a "eat less & move more but not know how much less or how much more" approach. It's also because you could overdo things, which isn't healthy/fun/advisable/necessary for success.]
Why mention your BMR? (Please do not say you are eating 550 below your BMR...)
And btw. With 10 lbs to lose, you can expect a healthy rate of loss to be about 0.5 lb to 1 lb per week. At that rate, you could easily be losing, but all the water weight fluctuations from the exercise and myriad other things are just making the losses hard to see. So you might be doing great, you'll just need to wait 1-2 months to get a more accurate picture of your weight trend!
I am really glad you're enjoying your game. You sound really positive -- I just wanted to ask the questions I asked because I can't quite tell if you might be getting a little bit too aggressive in an attempt to make the scale move. You don't need to push harder -- you probably just need to push smarter (tighten up the logging, maybe readjust settings if they're off) and/or have a little more patience.

Your BMR has nothing to do with weight loss, it's your TDEE that matters.
Please tell me you are not eating 500 below your BMR.0 -

I eat my BMR + what I burn exercising/walking - 550. The only way I'd eat 550 below my BMR is if I laid around and did nothing for a day, which I never do. Outside of exercising I don't have an extremely active life, but it's not an inactive life either. At my job I am on my feet outside all day, and it does involve a lot of walking. I usually walk more than 10,000 steps a day when I work. I do my 400 calorie workouts on each of my days off, and try to work in at least 100 calorie sessions on the days I work, maybe skipping 1 day a week if I'm too tired.
I assume by weigh your food you mean make sure your portions are accurate, and you're right I have been mostly estimating. I will start weighing it out.
What the heck is a TDEE?0
