Ok I am new to all this and I feel like I am not losing a thing. I want to be able to lose 2pounds per week and it says I should eat 1240 calories a day .I do cardio for 90 minutes 6 days a week and I feel like I am not losing a thing.Am I doing something wrong. One person told me I should be eating some of my calories burned is that true and if so how much? Also what is the purpose of eating the calories you burned doesn't that cause a gain?Someone please help me I am so frustrated with the way I look .I need to lose this weight. Also I am on a fixed income and can't really afford to buy health foods.I try to buy fresh fruits and veggies when I can but that is not often. So any suggestions on what to eat would be helpful too.

You need to eat 1240 a day without working out, if you work out log it in the exercise section and it will show you how many extra calories you get to eat for the day. So say you eat your 1240 and then burn 600 working out, you need to eat the 600 back so that you stay at the 1240 mark because if you go below your body will go into starvation mode and you will not lose anything! Make sense???0

The healthiest way to lose weight and to keep it off is to lose 1-2 pounds a week. That's a 500 - 1000 calorie deficit per day of calories burned vs. calories consumed. The reason a lot of people say to eat back your exercise calories is because if you don't, it creates too large a calorie deficit, which actually causes your body to hang on to everything it can to prevent it from starving. I found that 1200 - 1300 calories was too low for me to begin with. I couldn't stick to that, I was hungry all the time. So, I bumped mine up to 1400 when I don't exercise, and then eat most of my exercise calories when I do. It has been working for me, but everyone is different.
There's some posts that you should read if you haven't already. They are "pinned" at the very top of this topic category.... "Newbies please read me (2nd edition)", and "posts you'll want to read again and again." Check those out, they have a lot of valuable information. And never be afraid to ask questions and ask for advice. There are quite a few people on this site who have been very successful using these methods. Good luck! :flowerforyou:0 -
So I should eat the calories that I burn as well? This in return will help me lose weight right?0

I went over my 1240 calories for the day and I excercised enough to burn 1569 calories .I went over my daily calories by 920calories so what do I do in this case.Do I eat the remaining 640 or do I stay were I am at?I don't mean to sound like an idiot but I'm not sure how this works into losing weight.Isn't the purpose of burning calories to lose weight. If I eat the calories I burn won't I stay at the same weight.I feel stupid asking this but I don't think I understand .0

yes, it seems silly doesn't it? But as long as you maintain that calorie deficit, you will lose. Exercise helps strengthen our muscles, especially the heart, and increases our endurance and does a lot of wonderful things. But it's the calories that matter for losing weight. You can lose weight without any exercise just by eating less than you burn with your normal daily activities. The nice thing about all this is that if you try a program for a while, and it doesn't work quite how you want it to, you can change something, until you find the right formula for you. We all react differently, so no two people are going to lose weight the same way. You'll find what works best for you, it just takes time and patience and a lot of trial and error sometimes!0

Ok so let me see if I got this straight now .For example today I ate 2160 calories and I excercised enough to burn 1569 of those calories I consumed. So this meand I have an extra 600 calories to consume right?0

I will tell you from expeirence and I have only been here a couple of months but I wasn't eating all of my exersice calories and was only losing a little bit I say little because since I have started eating all of them I have been taking more weight off. some days it will be hard to eat them all but I always compute what I am going to eat for the day the day before so I know during the next day whether or not I HAVE to exersice that day.
Does that make sense or did I ramble? :laugh:0 -
No that helps ! So in other words I am not doubling my calories right ? I am eating the calories I burned so I stay at my daily calorie goal right?0

Ok guys I guess I was having a Blonde moment or my brain temporaliy stopped working but I understand it now.Basically what I ate I burned off so I needed to make up the calories I burnt of below my calorie deficit. So I needed to eat 640 calories more in order to be at my 1240 calorie goal for the day.Right?/?0

You're just maintaining a 500 calorie deficit.
Doing nothing, you burn 1740 calories a day. 1740-500 = 1240.
Exercise might increase your burn to 2040 cals a day. 2040-500= 1540.0 -
