Please don't be mean, but I am confused and need some reassurance.
Ok I weight 11st 3 currently, 2 yrs we went on hol to Cuba and I bought loads of new clothes my weight then was 11st so not much difference (3lb). I also used to go the gym 3* a week which were classes like JM does.
However I tried those clothes on 2 nights ago and can't get my 3/4 on, they come as far as top of thighs and that's it. Yet my top half hasn't changed.
So if I lose lbs will this solve this problem? or do I need exercise as well. I only ask as I suffer with my knees so squats and lunges which I know help tone thighs are no good as my knees suffer badly now with them.
Also don't suggest swimming as I can't swim.
The reason I am confused is because I didn't think 3lb could make a difference in clothes. The weight is right as I've checked back mfp and my weight was 155lb in may 2013 and it is now 158.
Can 3lb make a difference and only on thighs? I know you can't spot reduce but if I lose lbs can I back in them by middle of June

It's mainly inches that affect how clothing fits you. So you probably gained inches without gained much weight.
Can you take an adult swimming class or just learn to tread water in the shallow end where you can still touch the ground with your feet?0 -
I do find that size and weight don't always go down or up at the same rate. The things that make you gain weight (excess fluid, fat, muscle) all weight different amounts and take up different amounts of space in your body.
The answer is always your diet. If you eat at a calorie deficit you will loose weight. Where you loose it from depends on exercise, macros and genetics. Some girls are busty and some got booty!0 -

If you used to exercise but don't anymore, you could have lost muscle but gained fat. This change in body composition could account for larger thighs without much weight change...
Deficit will reduce body fat, but you can't tell your body where from unfortunately!0 -
Don't be down, be determined!! Get motivated to get what you want.0

My thighs are my main fat store so they get big easily. It's the first place that weight comes off too though so it is worth it.
My husband has had knee trouble in the past (including operations) mainly due to rugby injuries. He's heavy too so they have a lot of work to do! However, he cycles a lot to and from work - I thought it would be terrible for his knees but as its not a jarring motion and his knees and legs are in alignment it's actually really good for the muscles and ligaments. Your knee issues could be totally different but it could be worth talking to a fitness instructor or, even better, your doctor about what exercise would be best.
I can swim but I'm not very confident at it but when I was pregnant I went to Aqua-natal classes and have done Aqua-aerobics too. You get all the benefits of working with water resistance but without the worry of drowning!0 -
Do weight lifting (heavy) outside the pool for upper body
When you can tread water you can try a pool noodle to work on resistance and aerobics.
Keep up the swimming lessons.
Walking in the pool (between waist and chest height) is good for your legs and knees.0 -
great that you're taking swimming lessons - whilst in the pool you can hold on to the sides and kick
walk more - if your knees allow it
squats, lunges and compound lifts are great but if you have knee problems best to do them under supervision of your medical team / physio
also you lose fat by calorie defecit - so start there - amend your diet
I would imagine that you have increased your body fat ratio - scale weight is not really relevant0
