PCOS and vision boards

hello! My name is Rachel and I am on a mission to get healthy and to control my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I like to say,"I'm too manly for my body". And while 130lbs may not seem like much to some people, it unfortunately affects my health. Not having your period for 6 months (sometimes) and getting extra facial hair is not a flattering thing for a lady. So along with birth control, I hoping losing weight will help my issues. That's on my vision board for this year! Is losing weight on your vision board as well?

I'm in exactly the same position just with an extra 50lbs Today is a new day and this is where it's all going to start getting fit and healthy and not letting PCOS rule my life x0

I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 23 along with being told I was pre-diabetic. At the time, I weighed 310 lbs and had gone about 6 months without my period as well. While not having it was sort of nice, I knew it wasn’t normal. My doctor wanted to put me on cholesterol lowering medication but I refused and said I’d rather do this the healthy way. So, at the time I went from 310 to 225 and managed to stay there for around two years. I met my boyfriend two years after that and the healthy habits I’d started to acquire were ignored in favor of the old habits. Now I am 28 and back up in the 280’s (with gains and losses along the way). Last year I underwent gallbladder removal surgery due to stones more than likely caused by yo-yo dieting for years. It’s gotten to the point where my back and knee hurt continuously and I know my health is not great right now but I’m too chicken to go back to the doctor and find out specifics until I get some of this weight off. I’ve been 200+ lbs my whole teenage and adult life and I’m simply tired of it. Add to that the other unpleasant effects of PCOS and you’ve got a recipe for low self-esteem and confidence. My vision board this year includes a serious commitment to regaining my health and getting back to the low 200’s by the end of the year. I don’t expect to get to my goal of 160lbs until next year as I’m currently at 285 but I will continue to work hard to change my relationship with food and adopt a more active lifestyle.0

I have pcos too and my weight has always been an issue. I have lost 15lb so far and finally feel like I'm getting it under control.
As a bit of hope to those ladies who want a baby, I managed to have my daughter despite being told that I 'would never conceive naturally' due to the state of my ovaries. Weight loss does help, I lost a stone because of extreme stress in the run up to falling pregnant. It all went back on and more though, so here I am!
Good luck everyone, pcos is a nightmare!0 -

I was diagnosed with PCOS at a young age and for me the closer to the lower healthy weight I am and the more I exercise, the less symptoms I have. So, yes, even the last 10 lbs can make a difference. Focus on exercise, this will make the bigger change in controlling PCOS.0 -

That is so lovely to hear that you had your daughter despite being told the worst. Fingers crossed I get there too - do you mind me asking what did you find the best way to lose the weight was? (Apart from the stress of course!)

I lost that weight in a very very unhealthy way. I stopped eating very much at all. I would not recommend it! When I found out I was pregnant I was in a poor physical state and found it very hard to start eating properly again. I wasn't actually aiming to lose weight, I was just having a very tough time and struggling to cope.
This time around I have lost 15lbs in 5 weeks 2days. I know that sounds rather extreme, but I am eating very healthily and exercising when I can. Feel free to add me and have a nose at my diary. I have increased my proteins and fats to keep me feeling full and decreased my carbs. I think with pcos carbs are a nightmare due to the insulin resistance. I don't think it's right to cut them out completely, but cutting them down is working really well for me. I try to eat more complex carbs rather than white bread/rice etc.
Good luck, I am sure you will get there. Like I said, feel free to add me, I am more than willing to cheer you on!0
