I cut out soda, cheese, candy and junk food such as potato chips, doritos, cookies and other pastries. Its a big change for me but I know in the long run it will be a lot easier to lose the weight I need to lose

A lot of people will say you can eat those things in moderation and lose weight (which is completely true), but if cutting something out helps you get on your feet better, who am I to judge? But consider moderation, if you can do it, you can really create a sustainable life style that includes all your favorite foods. Plus laughing cow cheese wedges have 35 calories and you can do so much with them.0

All of this! If you think you can moderate your intake - do it! If not, that's okay too0 -

Maybe stay away at first, for a while. (One is on a roll at first, anyway.) And then, approach with caution, haha. That's worked for me = )0 -
This is something I struggle with too. I don't want to cut things out because I know I won't stick with it forever. So I don't want to feel deprived. But maybe it's best to give some things up for awhile. Then gradually add them back in, in moderation?

Those are tough items to give up, but you should start to see a difference once you cut out all that salt, sugar and calories. Great job! Keep up the good work.0

Maybe it will work, maybe not. You'll find out. Good luck on whatever you decide

Do what YOU need to do. That's the approach I took while I was losing (except cheese, I ate cheese every day). I strictly limited heavily refined carbs (pastries, candy, cookies, soda, chips...) and focused on developing some healthy eating habits. My diet up to that point was primarily heavily refined convenience foods. I learned to cook even! After I lost the weight, and felt that I had learned how to cook and eat a healthy diet, I added back tortilla chips, some ice cream, dark chocolate, and a few other treats I had a hard time moderating. I just don't keep them in the house all the time (except the chocolate).0

When I started I ate a VERY carb/sugar heavy diet. I did a very low carb/high protein, fat diet and had a lot of success. When I went back to eating "normally" I found that I don't really like all those things anymore. I can eat a 1/3 cup of rice, not the cup or two I used to eat. I can eat a bite or two of dessert but not the big bowl of ice cream that I used to eat. I'm all about "moderation" but I think that sometimes we need a little reset in our eating habits. Good Luck to you!0

Yes, I found that my tastes had changed as well, and I felt so much more in control of my cravings around "that time of the month". Win win.0 -

Something you could do is choose healthy alternatives so you don't feel like you're completely missing out (i.e.- carbonated water with a squirt of lemon/lime, all natural sweet potato chips or homemade baked potato chips, black bean tortilla chips, graham crackers [the real kind], etc.)
