my battle with carbs

usually carbs make me crave for more which leads to overeating, especially carbs like cookies, chocolate, cupcakes ...etc

when i cut them out, i am never satisfied, doesn't matter how much protein or veges or good fats i am eating, i am always missing something (which leads to binging)

but my reaction to bread (organic without any sugar added) i don't over eat it, i feel very satisfied and i don't go crazy on the carb binge if i have some bread included with my protein

how is that possible ? does it mean that not all carbs are similar ? it's just the cookies that are driving me crazy, but bread is not as bad as i thought ?

i would love to know what is your experience with bread and carbs in general :)

I think that there may be some placebo effect at play. You think that your no sugar bread is healthy so you are convinced it doesn't cause cravings. Or maybe it tastes gross so you really don't crave it.

    It's mostly a mind game, I think.

There are some foods that I'll eat and the end result is I want to eat all the things afterwards. Others just taste yummy and fill me up.

If you find it difficult to be in control while eating certain things, cut back on them or cut them out. Plenty of people have issues with portion control for sweets. The usual recommendations are to not have them in the house at all or portion them out - put a serving of cookies/m&m's, whatever, in a bag or container, and that's your treat for the day, period.

Leave the bread in if you find it's helping. It sure sounds like you've got a good solution for now at least :)

Welcome to the club. Carbs and me don't mix too well. Low satiety + high calorie = eat 'em too much.

In terms of bread, more fiber can be more satiating. But if you're not satiated by protein, like meat, eggs, and cheese, then something could be amiss with your hunger control (e.g., leptin resistance, insulin resistance, etc).

well i think bread is yummy, but it's not as pleasurable as a cookie obviously
maybe it all comes down to the mental side of it? umm

If you know that doing without sweets permanently isn't going to work for you, you don't have to do it.

I cut them out of my life for a very long time because I had trouble controlling myself with them. Something interesting happens when you cut them out, though. You sort of reset your taste buds, and get a new threshold for "sweetness". It's easier not to binge out on sweets when you reintroduce them once this happens.

It's mostly a head game, really. If you give them up as a temporary measure, just to reset your taste buds, do you think that maybe, knowing that you'll be going back to them, it'll keep you from binging on them?

I think one of the things about the idea of NEVER having something again that leads to binging is that once someone gives in to a craving, they sort of go hog wild because they swear that once they're done THIS TIME, they're never going back. So they shovel it in.

Whereas, if you just temporarily give up the sweets, retrain your taste buds, and then give yourself permission to have sweets in moderate amounts, there's no aura of forbidden fruit surrounding them. You'll have also changed your taste for sweets, and will be satisfied with less sweet taste.

your approach is very nice and sounds achievable for me, i think i should definitely give my self a break and then introduce them once a while. the idea of not having them ever won't work with me for sure

thank you so much for your advice :)
