Anyone want to join me with having a 'dry' May?

Looking back through my diary since January, there is one major thing holding me back and causing me problems, Alcohol! Even being fairly careful and only having a few beers and then moving onto spirits with no sugar mixers can cause me to add a full meals worth of calories to the day and if I'm hungover the next day I end up overeating as well (I lose the will to cook and an almost medical need for greasy food). I have tried cutting down during the week to make up for the weekend (my diaries open if you want to see what I mean) but I'm not feeling it's quite worth it.

So starting from the 4th May, I'm not going to let one drop of alcohol pass my lips and see how that affects my weightloss.

Anyone with me?

Sounds like a plan. I'm a student with male flatmates so beer is pretty much a daily thing and accounts for a decent portion of my calories. Will be interesting to see if cutting out for a month improves my losses.

I'm in! I stopped drinking for a long time and with that (and being too depressed to eat much last year) I dropped a whole pant size. Once I felt better and started eating (and some weekends way too much crap!!) It's been easy to keep the weight off. I started again a few weeks ago and logging it sure makes it real how many calories your drinking and wasting! Let's do this!

OP look at it this way. Use your calories for food and not for whatever affect you get with alcohol.

Thats exactly what I'm doing, and that is the reason I'm trialling this for a month. Everyone has their vices, socialising with friends and alcohol is one of my only ones.

Once I've seen how I can still enjoy myself without alcohol I'm aiming to reintroduce it at a more sustainable level.

I'm in!!! I've been bingeing on the weekends without slowing down during the week...major calorie overload from alcohol. My weight loss has stalled, I think the calories saved from the booze just might get it going again :-)

Yup that was difficult for me at first too. It takes a while to get used to being in the alcohol scene with no alcohol. Also it got in the way of my weight loss so I had to rid it.

I have stopped drinking for over a week now and feel great. I started gaining weight with the loss of my father and used alcohol to cope. So needless to say I gained a lot
Of weight because of it. I want to change my lifestyle and be the me I can be. So I stopped drinking. I don't know for how long or if forever but for now it's working. To answer your question, yes, I will have a dry May with you. Add me for support.

I just decided today that I'm going to do 60 dry days. For the calories, the hangover and for my mental well being. I'm into a dry May!!

I've given up white wine since taking this journey (April 11th was my first day) and I find myself sleeping better and feeling better too. I'm in! Now I need to have a dry May from cheese. I love cheese but cheese loves my butt.

I want to try this, and I absolutely will so long as I don't get chastised after my inevitable failure on the first weekend.

To be fair I used to drink every single night, one beer or one glass of wine, sure, not a lot. It adds up, though. These last two weeks I've kept my drinking to the weekends, and this last weekend I only had one beer.

Okay, it was a 40oz, but still just one.

    I didn't even finish it!

Probably because I was already wearing a dress that only zipped up with my sibling's assistance, and only after pressing all the air out of my body, and THEN I had an enormous bowl of the most heavenly Tonkotso Shoyu Ramen...

It was my cheat night, and by the end of it I swear I could feel every thread and seam on that outfit.

Clicking on this thread I thought "dry" was going to mean something else. Good luck with your quest! I will not be joining.

I bet you thought we were talking about eating our sandwiches with no spread, right?

I'm in, too! I've been putting off quitting drinking for a while now and I know it's contributing to keeping me from obtaining my goal weight. Let's do this. :)
