Cutting when not having much Muscle?

So I've been lifting for quite a long time.. couple months.. mistakes here and there.. which is why not much progress at the moment... but..

5'6
140 pounds

I'm eating 1900 a day when my TDEE is 2200

I want the big muscles.. I want to see them grow... do I have to eat over my TDEE for them to grow...?..

Can they grow without gaining much fat?... I know lean muscle and all but I am so *kitten* lost...

I'm eating 20% under my TDEE.. hitting 1g of protein per body weight.. and hitting all my macros for around 5 days now but...

Will they grow and get big?...


I used to way 220 pounds of pure fat and have a tiny bit of loose skin..

    You must eat over your TDEE for your body to grow. No way around it.

    Is 2200 less 20% 1900?

    My understanding is you muscles aren't going to grow much in a deficit.

    Well no.. I was eating 1700-1800.. but just pumped it up to 1900 yesterday.. 1900 is not 20%.. correct..

    Yes you have to eat over your TDEE and lift for them to grow.

    You will gain some fat...no way around it.

    1g of protein per body weight is a bit high...try for 0.8grams.

    and not to harp on you but lifting for a couple months is not that long....I have been for almost 2 years and still considered on the low end of intermediate.

    I would suggest going over to the gaining forum and reading the sticky over there…

    but here is what you need to do ..

    Eat at about 250 calories over maintenance for a half pound per week gain.
    taking starting measurements
    get on a structured lifting program like strong lifts, starting strength, etc.
    I forget the grams for your macros ,but you can set the percents at 45% carbs; 30% protein, and 25% fats that should get you close to where you need to be..
    make sure you eat nutrition dense foods, but there is nothing wrong with calorie dense foods like ice cream, pizza, cookies, etc; just make sure that you are hitting your micros as well as macros…
    repeat until you get desired results…

    oh and you are going to gain fat, no way around that one…more than likely it will be 1:1 to fat to muscle..so ten pound gain should equate to five pounds of muscle and five pounds of fat….

    Why would you be cutting if you want muscles? You need to EAT in a surplus for muscles.
