latenight hunger/binging? !

Ok, lately I have Been waking at all hours of the night eating . I eat total crap food and then head back to bed ! It is no wonder that I am gaining weight . I feel unhealthy and extremely lethargic. Anyone else deal with this?

How much are you eating during the day? Hunger is a sign that you are hungry - not getting enough fuel in the form of calories / nutrients through the day. Would say feeling unhealthy and lethargic could be signs too.
Severely cutting calories is a popular weight loss method, but it really is silly. Of course you have to eat less to lose weight, but not too much. Listen to your body, eat better quality food - and probably more - during the day, try it for a week and see what happens0 -
I awaken most nights - like right now. I just eat if I am hungry (starting with half of something and if I need more I eat the other half) and log the calories as Post Midnight.0

the question is why? are you hungry? if so eat more food during the day.

If you have been eating less calories and you just started out, your body is trying to adjust to the changes. I used to wake up many times in the night and have hunger pangs... they were really telling me to drink water..
You quickly learn to block these signals as you get some time under belt... I would not eat during this time. Let your body adjust to the calorie deficit otherwise you may be starting a new habit unless this has been an issue all along (if that is the case.. you can ignore what I said)..0 -
The easiest thing to do is to get rid of all of that "crap food" so that it isn't even there for you to eat! Also, I agree with what is said above. Are you eating enough during the day? Do you deprive yourself before you head to bed and therefore feel like you need to make up for that later? Try having a small healthy "treat" before you go to bed.
When you do wake up at night, tell yourself that "just for tonight" you won't cave in. Try that for a couple of nights and your brain and body will start getting used to ignoring the urge to get up.0 -
This awakening during the night can be hormonal. Your blood sugar drops and your body awakes thinking it is in peril.
First of all get your insulin levels checked.
You may be one of these people with insulin sensitivity. There could be modification you make to your diet.
Many alcoholics have this issue. If you are a drinker, it may have become a problem for you.m0 -

That happens to me if I don't eat enough calories during the day and/or go to bed slightly hungry. I actually like to go to bed slightly hungry and most nights it doesn't effect me but oh boy have I had those nights where I just get up and start looking to eat on anything I can get my hands on! I just don't keep junk in my house and most things need to be cooked / prepared so that stops me. The snack items I do keep around are healthy items. Mainly I try to just chug water and go back to bed!0

Well as far as I know I eat plenty throughout the day ... but I find that I get hungry every couple of hours after my last meal of the day ? Maybe I just need to eat later ?0 -

I just don't know if it is ever enough! I eat pretty well, just not always as healthy as I should.

Well I have been better about buying less crap food but then when I wake up and realize I don't have anything good to munch on , I get pissed ! Lol but for this reason I am trying my best to avoid buying any crap. I'm thinkin if I meal prepped some snacks then I can munch on those. .. such as fruit or cheese and crackers something not too heavy..

My husband is a middle of the night eater, too. It's one of those habits that is really hard to break. Maybe when you wake up you can drinks some water or even some almond milk? Or eat a banana? That's what we keep in the house for him, but sometimes he still gets into the crap instead (I keep crap in the house because I like to eat it sometimes, too).
For people who aren't middle of the night eaters, it's very strange. I know for a fact that even if I wake up starving in the middle of the night, I am too lazy and disinclined to get up and actually eat anything.0 -
I think we need much more information here. Good points have already been brought up...especially the insulin concern.
How many calories are you eating a day? I see you want to lose 6 lbs? I am hesitant to give any advice without knowing your stats.0 -
it's rare that this happens to me, but there have been times I wake up STARVING! I am usually too lazy to move lol, so I will chug water and that usually helps. Sometimes you're just thirsty0

I had this exact same problem for years. I could never beat it, anytime I tried to fight the urge, I would just keep waking up until I ate something. Just like yourself it was junk food. I don't know how it happened, but for the past 2 weeks I have stopped doing it. I still wake up at night, but I may go get a drink of water and I go back to sleep. I think it is basically mind over matter. You just have to fight the urge and stop it early before it becomes a habit like it did for me. I can't say I fully defeated my issue, but I am very proud that I have stopped it over the past two weeks. I also lost about 4 lbs, so that is an added plus. My only other piece of advice is to try and limit the junk food you have in the house and maybe even try to have a snack before bed.
