Sure. 3 pounds a week really isn't outrageous.

Depends on if you're obese, or near your goal. The closer you are to your goal, the slower you should be losing.

Depends on your stats and how much you have to lose.

If it's your first month, typically there's a large drop due to water weight loss.

I have to disagree when OP has 12 pounds to lose total.

These are moderate goals......moderate goals help your body support existing lean muscle.

    Pound per week goals
75+ lbs set to lose 2 lb range
Between 40 - 75 lbs set to lose 1.5 lb range
Between 25-40 lbs set to lose 1 lb range
Between 15-25 lbs set to lose 1 -.50 lb range
Less than 15 lbs set to lose 0.5 lbs range

Fast weight loss often sacrifices lean muscle. You don't lower your body fat percentage by as much as you could have.

I'm not really clear on whether you've already lost the weight or if that's your goal. If the latter then it's very unlikely and if it happens it won't be achieved in a healthy way.

If you've already lost the weight then a fair amount is probably water.

You're most likely fine. Possibly half of that was water weight but even if its not, depending on your current weight I wouldn't freak out.

And to clarify she wants to lose 24 lbs total and has lost 12 so far.

that is quite fast with so little to lose. You should have set a goal of 1 lb/week at first then lowered to 0.5 when you get to last 10 or so. on top of that you should be eating back exercise calories and do some form of strength training. The small deficit and strength training will help ensure that most of your loss comes from fat, instead of losing a lot of lean muscle along with the fat.
