I've been afraid to use coconut oil when frying because I don't want everything to taste like coconut. Don't the eggs taste weird with coconut flavoring?

Get the refined stuff. No coconut at all. I use Spectrum refined coconut oil. The unrefined is the one that has the coconut undertone.

I have been using coconut oil for over a year to my eggs and i do not see a difference at all, it's great. Melts faster than butter and has a higher burn rate.

I hate hate HATE the taste of coconut. I use coconut oil to fry my eggs all the time and have never noticed a coconut flavour.

I like coconut quite a bit. Coconut flavored eggs though? Not so much. lol I'll have to check which kind of coconut oil I have.

    Isn't unrefined coconut oil healthier?

I'm sure I've read about it somewhere. .

I don't know, it doesn't say on the can. The ingredients says 100% pure coconut oil. No indication if refined or not but i will look now.

Decent guide for info on the types of coconut oil:

    Refined vs. Unrefined

    Refined Coconut Oil

A refined coconut oil is usually rather tasteless and odorless. Because it has been refined, it can usually withstand slightly higher cooking temperatures before reaching its smoke point. Refined coconut oils are excellent for cooking foods where you need lots of clean, pure, malleable fat without a dominating coconut flavor. (Think pie crusts or french fries.) Refined coconut oils do not offer the same health benefits of a virgin, completely raw coconut oil, but they are still excellent sources of most of the beneficial fatty acids (like MCTs). As a given, almost all the coconut oils available in your grocery store or vitamin store are refined unless they specifically say otherwise on their label.

Love this thread. I have been wondering about using coconut oil, but also hate the taste of coconut, so I have learned a lot from this! Thanks for the info!

Off topic but my favorite use of organic unrefined coconut oil is for making sweet potato home fries. Yum!

I usually have dark chocolate of some sort. It's how I bribe myself to get through my evening workout. :)
