Core

I've seen at least some progress in every part of my body, except my core. I don't know if this is from something in my diet, or if I need to focus my workouts even more on my core muscles. I tried on swimsuits yesterday and my mid section is still not quite ready for bikini season. Any tips on what to do to target this area, or what has worked for you?

Thanks!

Planks are great for your core. Fitnessblender.com has amazing core workouts. You can pick and choose from several with different levels of difficulty and length of workout. The videos are on YouTube and they are free!
    Good luck!

You really can't spot reduce. Not sure if you are saying your core is week, or you have extra belly fat you want to get rid of. I am assuming the latter. If that is the case, keep losing body fat as sometimes (maybe most) that is the last place for the fat to come off. A good compound movement strength training program will be your best option.

QFT - you can improve your posture and make it easier to 'suck it in' by doing core work (which is best done via compound exercises), but only body fat reduction will flatten it out for real.

Hi there, I had a really weak core and excess weight on my tummy and just below by bra after having twins (albeit they are now 4). I cannot feel from my belly button down to my c-section scar but have been doing Insanity and have noticed quite a difference, I can even suck it in now! I understand how frustrating it is tho - I'm still trying to work on it!

Thanks! I started doing Insanity about 2 weeks ago, and I love it. Good to know I should start seeing results if I keep at it.

Do you mean you don't see a reduction in bodyfat in your abdomen or you feel that your core muscles are weak, or both? Remember the Core is much more than just abs, it's actually more like Abs (Transversus / Rectus), Obliques, lower back (Erectors, multifidus, Longissimus, Quadratus Lumborum), Glutes, and Psoas (hips). Some will refer to this as the Lumbo-Pelvic Hip Complex.

If we're talking visibility of the muscle then that's mostly in your nutrition, get that straight and you'll see results over time.

If you're talking strength & function, then you need to strengthen your core muscles. Exercises such as the Squat show pretty good activation of different core muscles with weights at and above 70% of your 1RM. The research typically uses the Back Squat or Front Squat, so I'm not sure how the Goblet Squat would play into that but I'm sure it's not too far off. You can also use Planks and other isolation & anti-rotational exercise to compliment the squat in strengthening these muscles.

I do planks, birddogs, hip raises, and squats for my core and lower back. But I am just doing it for strength. If I look better for it, great too, but I haven't noticed too much in that department...yet...I suppose.
