You know what. You keep doing what you are doing. You can't control anyone else but yourself. Losing 13 lbs is a lot. People are going to talk regardless whether you're doing good or not. That's their way of making themselves feel good when they have some issues of their own. Rise above it. You got this.

This is true. Not only that, but use it as a learning example. Teach yourself to be responsible for your own thoughts/actions. You cannot control what anyone else says, thinks, feels, or does. Once you embrace that fact, you will see that it's not about you. What other people say is a reflection of their own thoughts/upbringings/experiences in their lives. You could walk in looking like an absolute perfect example of yourself, and someone would STILL have a problem with it. So what. Again, not in your control. If you live your life attempting to please everyone, the only one you'll please - is nobody and take yourself down in the process.

It is a valuable life lesson. Make that a goal if you want to conquer those feelings. ;)

13 pounds is an incredible loss!! I have to put up with constant comments from people I know including my mother but I am lucky enough to have a super supportive OH. I think you're super brave for going the gym after something like that put you off - there are some awful people out there but they tend to be the exception not the rule. I am always the biggest girl at the gym (ladies only gym) and no one ever says anything to me. Just stick some headphones in and stick with it - you're doing awesome!

I try and just take a minute to think about it when people say unkind things to me about my weight and the changes I'm making - are they jealous you are making a change they can't?

You are doing great!!!! 13pounds is a lot for 1 month. Many people dream about that success. Don't quit with gym, its so important for your healt. There is always going to be negative people around but they are minority. Most of people it's not like that, trust me. Be proud of yourself for doing so well with lack of support. It means you are very strong! Just set small goals for yourself so you can celebrate your accomplishment & then move on to a next goal! It takes time, patience & determination. I think you have that & don't let your insecurities to take over. You can do this, sky is the limit!

Honestly learn moe about how weight loss works, that will help you to understand the process and just how good 13lbs in a month is and that you should be feeling and doing the opposite of bowing your head in shame.
Be your own best friend and supporter and just keep trying to make good choices each day.

The gym is straightforward and gets easier the more you go. Focus on you and realise Nobody else gives a fig about what you are doing, they are more interested in themselves and just see you as one other who is trying to get fit.

Woahhh 13 pounds in a month!! That's awesome! You gotta give me some tips! I can't seem to shed anything, oh well. Always remember haters will hate. Ignore them. People who tease usually have low self esteem and they find the need to tease people to feel better themselves. I am completely serious, and I'm not saying this to make you feel better, its the truth. So hold your head up high, you've done great, be proud of it!
P/s, I really need some tips on how to shed the pounds!

I'm no dietitian or anything (ironically my dad is but I don't talk to him about weight loss or diets because of stuff from the past). I just did alittle research and kinda made up my own diet rules. I'm kinda doing a low carb, low fat, high protein thing. I've cut out fast food, frozen food, and most processed foods. I try and stick to fresh organic fruits and veggies and lean meats. I don't like any seafood at all so lots of boneless skinless chicken boiled and some lean beef or pork loin chops. I try and avoid bread for the most part.

I've always been a huge water drinker and not much of a soda drinker so that works in my favor. I don't drink anything but water now with the occasional coffee or organic kids lemonade with now sugar added. Never been one to like my coffee sweet so black coffee with a splash of original creamer is to my taste and it's not high in calories.

Now not gonna lie I do have a weakness for Starbucks frappucinos, I have permitted myself one every other week and instead of getting the venti like I use to sometimes multiple times a day, I get a tall or grande depending on my calorie and sugar intake for the day. I have had to get fast food since doing this, I had the cantina bowl at taco bell. My thing is if I absolutely have to get fast food I'm gonna still stay with in my guidelines as best as possible instead of saying well it's fast food might as well just do whatever. It is still possible to get "healthier" fast food in my eyes.

If I get a sweet tooth I tend to reach for an apple or yoplait whips (kinda high in sugar for my liking but they are better than some alternatives) are fantastic to freeze and it's kinda like having icecream. Anything I choose when I shop I look to make sure the sugar is in the single digits (with the exception of an occasional yoplait whips to calm a persistent sweet craving). I try and do foods with natural sugar (like fruit) as much as possible over foods with added sweetener.

Again I am no doctor or dietitian, I'm not an expert in any way. I just found some guidelines for myself that so far suit me. And trust me I know it's not easy to maybe go as far as I have with some of my guidelines but for me if I didn't go in a fairly strict way with an occasional allowance then I was gonna give myself too much leeway. I can't stress enough that I am not an expert at all, just a girl doing the best she can for herself.

Don't let the jerks derail your progress!

I've been going to my gym for over 3 years now. I'm still obese. My pants roll down and my belly pops out as I'm doing my workout. But I bust *kitten* 5 days a week, 2 of them with my trainer (a competitive bodybuilder). The big, muscled guys that I used to think judged me are now the ones cheering me on when I hit a new lifting record! Playfully snapping me with a towel and telling me to stop slacking as I'm standing on a BOSU doing balance work.

Do you have an iPod or similar device? Take that with you and listen to music that makes you happy while you're at the gym. You will not hear anyone's remarks. I use that same bike too a lot of the time because it is more comfy for my gigantic butt. LOL

My gym must be weird because everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. My fear is that I will see someone I know and then we'll end up getting in a chat session and I'll have to scramble to get my workout done, lol

That 13 lbs you lost leads to 15 lbs to 20 lbs....to 22....25....28....30... you should not be ashamed at ALL! That's awesome!!!

It's a fact of life that there are people out there who just do not know how to act. Why should that mess with YOUR goals? Let it be their problem, trust that that kind of behavior has consequences for them just like your own actions have consequences for you.

I've lost 15 pounds in about 7 months here. But I will tell you that I have lost more inches than that represents, and because I have been exercising on the regular, I feel so much better - better posture, better balance, better ability to carry heavy stuff and climb up stairs and all that jazz that doesn't come just from losing weight. Focus on what you want to achieve, give your haters the finger and make it happen.

Seconding the headphones suggestion. I'm in my own little world at the gym and if people want to give me looks or make snide comments, I don't notice!

It sounds like the other people in your life giving you a hard time about your diet are scared that you are going to succeed and they would rather have you stay with them eating unhealthy stuff all the time. It makes them feel guilty that they aren't eating better, and instead of following in your footsteps, they'd rather drag you back down. Just remember when someone you know makes these kind of remarks, it's a reflection on their own issues.

    God bless!
