I've had horrible, horrible headaches the last few days and wonder if my detoxing from all the sugar, diet soda, and junk food out of my system is causing it.

Cutting caffeine, probably. Keep drinking the water, take Advil or the like if you can, and you'll adjust.

Congrats on making progress on something you want to accomplish. As I said in the other post, I don't think it's necessary at all to cut caffeine/diet soda, at least not for most people, but if it's something you want to do and you feel better, good for you.

I found it helpful to focus on process goals, like cooking all my meals or eating protein and veggies with every meal, not snacking, whatever you think would help you, as well as calories, as that gave me some things that I could succeed on and feel like were steps toward better health without getting tied up with what the scale will do. It sounds like you are doing something similar, so that's probably will be helpful to you too.

I did the same thing with my getting active and exercise goals.

this diet sounds like self torture..

I eat all the foods that you have eliminated and have no issues with losing weight.

why not just do the following:

    enter your stats into MFP
    eat to that number
get a food scale and weight all solids
hit your micro/macros for the day
move more i.e. walking, running, gym, etc...

Why torture? She's just making healthier choices. I don't think eating junk food, sugary treats and drinking coke by fitting her macros, are gonna make her healthy. Why abt nutrition? I totally agree with the rest, but we have to watch out for nutrition too.

    Because it's unnecessary.

Maybe it is unnecessary for you in reaching your goals...maybe hers are different.

From what she listed nothing is harmful nor necessary for good health...with the exception of "all sugar"....depending on whether she means added sugar or any food where sugar is found naturally.

I haven't given up any of those things...at least at this point...it is not necessary for me to give them up to reach my goals. I can't speak for the OP...her goals are obviously different than mine.

Didn't read other's post but I will say if you have shin splints then take a few days off to heal. I've read several times here on mfp that it's 80% eating 20% exercise so cut yourself some slack and make sure you are eating enough. 3 days rest and you should be good to go.

Yeah, I wanna come in and add if someone feels that they need to, or want to give up a certain something, then that's their choice, just as many of us choose to partake in those foods others seem forbidden. Nowhere am I saying "no, go eat all the sugarz" haha. I rarely eat ice cream because it's a nomz I have control issues with, so it's only when I get one serving, or a party or holiday or something usually.

Whatever anyone decides to do that is healthy and works for them and their goals, good luck!

WOW! Lots of responses. I was actually just wanting to know if cutting out the sugar, Diet Pepsi could be causing my headaches. The headache is pretty much gone today. I should have known that posting on Community I should have expected so much negative feedback. That's why I don't post very much.

The diet is only restrictive the 1st two weeks, then goes into just using portion control using proteins, carbs, and fats. Day 7 is a cheat day and I can have whatever I want. You're just not supposed to gorge yourself, but I can have pizza, ice cream, etc. on the cheat days.

I take a lot of medications which have made it next to impossible to lose weight and also make me have uncontrollable cravings. Seroquel is one of them which I take for insomnia. I discussed with my doctor at my last visit going off of it, but we agreed that getting sleep was more important then the weight loss. I also have no thyroid due to cancer. I have fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome so I can't overdo my exercising. I mentioned that I'm suffering from shin splints which have hindered my walking. Not sure what that's about, but it's very painful.

To me this diet looked pretty healthy which is why I'm doing it. I haven't followed it exactly but have tried to eat the foods listed and in moderation. For lunch I just had chicken salad, eggs, celery and olive oil. For dinner I'll have steak and a spinach salad. For breakfast I had a spinach omelet with toast. My snack was raw almonds. I'm not sure why some would think that's unhealthy.

Thanks for the feedback. You've given me a lot to think about. All my life I took losing weight easily for granted. I was even smug about it. My normal weight was 123lbs with my lowest 104. Now I'm 183 and it hurts. I just have to add that those who think it's easy to lose weight at age 64 aren't there yet.

Mary, it's not negative feedback, but it seems to me it's feedback you don't want to hear. ;)

It sounds like you are under the doctor's care, too, which is good. :)

I'm very open to feedback, but people seem to go off on tangents and off-topic unrelated to what I posted and asked about. Making fun of me for trying something they don't agree with was a little harsh in the way it was posted. I try to stay away from Community for this exact reason. In my ideal world Community would be a place to get support and encouragement.

In regard to my shin splints. I'm baffled. This is going on weeks now. My shins are now hurting even when I'm sitting and watching TV. When we start our walks I'm fine for about 1/2 mile. Then the pain starts and increases the longer I walk until I can barely make it home because of the pain. I didn't strain them by running. It just started out of the blue.

Somebody suggested a Vit. D deficiency, which I have had so I'm making sure to take that everyday.

Why not just eat at a caloric deficit?

That doesn't sound right and I would get that looked at

I am eating at a calorie deficit. Everyday. Just not able to get the cardio in due to the shin splints. I'm going to try and get on the treadmill today (it's raining out) and see how it goes. It they start hurting I'm going to call my internist tomorrow. You're right. Something's off.

I also got the terrible headache again last evening and am sooooo tired, but the med I'm on to help with my insomnia isn't working. I've tried every sleep med out there and this was like a last resort. B)

If you're eating at a deficit, then you'd be losing weight. Though I believe exercise is important for overall health, the above listed advice is all you need for loss. I'm sorry, I believe you're eating more than you're saying, or more than you think.

OMG. For those who eat whatever they want and are losing weight (assuming by counting calories and exercising) that's great. If your only goal is to lose lbs then that's awesome. But for those who also want to be healthier and eat more nutritious food, then I think cutting out sweets/colas/junk food is the right choice. I do believe, however, that eating those things once in awhile is ok.
Also, if doing more of a 30 day detox then it's totally ok to limit food groups.

OP: Congrats on choosing to eat whole nutritious foods! Your body will thank you for focusing on nutrient dense (high quality) carbohydrates and other healthful foods.

And good luck on your weight loss as well.

Butter increasing your metabolism=a plan based on "whole nutritious foods"?

I didn't criticize OP's plan at all, but come on.

Also, once again, it's quite simple to follow a plan based on whole nutritious foods without signing on to some labelled eating plan that tells you what to eat.

I eat whatever I want and am healthy. My diet is nutritious and also includes treats that I like. Foods that taste good (i.e. what people like you call "junk") aren't bad for you just because they taste good.

Sorry for being overly sensitive and defensive. I will be honest for those criticizing this diet and admit it was an impulsive decision on my part to join this program. I was sitting with my daughter's sister-in-law last Saturday at my grandson's baseball game and she was raving about this diet. I'm extremely impulsive (it's my ADHD) and desperate to lose the 30+lbs I've gained. I agree the presentation to join was ridiculous, but thought for $47 it was cheaper then going to Weight Watchers, joining Jenny Craig, or some other program. By the time the presentation was done they had charged me over $400 and I had no way to go back a screen and they had my credit card. I did call the next day and got that fixed, which they did with no problem.

I don't know if this will work or not, but feel like I need structure in my eating as what I was doing was bingeing on crap food. Getting the sugar and junk food out of my system has stopped the cravings. I was happy to get rid of the Diet Pepsi as I figured it might help with my sleep problems (no such luck). It has helped motivate me to greatly increase my water intake so that's another good thing.

Today's my cheat day. I might have a brownie, but still plan on staying within my calorie limit.

I really have been eating at a calorie deficit, but the one thing I haven't been doing this week is exercising. So I'm now on my way down to the treadmill and see how the shin splints are feeling.

    Seriously, thank you!

Regarding the shin splints - I had them until I went to my local running store and had my stride professionally evaluated and then got fit for the correct shoes for my fitness goals and pronation problems. Shin splints magically went away. You might try that.
