I had a new low weight yesterday and then my weight jumped 2 pounds this AM.... I know I am supposrd to ignore these fluctations but it still bugs me when my weight spikes ... especially when it is a couple of pounds ... really

If you are going to be discouraged by fluctuations, you probably shouldn't weigh daily. This is going to happen.0 -
Drives me nuts too ..... but I am trying really hard to go with the flow and trust that my body will give in and settle down sooner or later x0

If you are going to be discouraged by fluctuations, you probably shouldn't weigh daily. This is going to happen.
The only possible reason you should weigh daily is if you had some sort of heart surgery, and you want to make sure there isn't much fluid in your heart. My mom's cardiologist wants her to take more Lasix when she goes up more than 2lbs for that day.0 -

Well, I weigh daily because I like the data. I just weigh myself, put it into my Libra app, and focus on the trend instead of the daily number.0 -

The day after I lift I am always 2-4 lbs heavier. You know it's not fat so just note it and move on.0

I totally understand. Obviously you didn't gain 2 lbs in one day and there are lots of reasons for these fluctuations, but I get why it's annoying to see it. Trust in yourself and check back in another day or two.0

Yeah I like trying to stay with the discomfort and knowing. I guess rhat is being adult. I wish we could share progress charts so i could see other peoples ups and downs. The way the body fights to maintain weight is at once didcouraging and comforting. I am sure it slows weight gain too. Hopefully it will mean my body and i will be in harmony when i am on maintenance.0

Notice how I "lost" 3kg (6.6lbs) in 4 days around day 32. Or maybe the 4kg (8.8lbs) drop around day 5. It's not the daily measurement you should be paying attention to - It's the long term trend.

I used to weigh daily, but I found I couldn't cope with the fluctuations; started to really obsess about the number on the scale and it led to some not-so-healthy eating habits in an effort to see a number which was lower than the day before. I now weigh twice a week (but only record once a week) which has helped me. But I do like the idea of tracking it every day to see if there are any patterns in the fluctuations!0

This! I value my peace of mind.
I already know I've been under my MFP calorie limit all week, so I also know I've done well.
I don't need superfluous numbers to freak me out. Macros and micros are bad enough!0 -
Actually I think weekly is wose than daily. I can see places in my daily tracking where if i pick a week my weight goes up 2 pounds. Usually after a new low weight my weight rebounds a bit before going further down. If my weight wdnt up a pound or two in a week it would bothef me the whole week till the next weighin. Seeing my weight every day is generally supportive but sometimes frustrating. If i wrghed once per wedk I would be too curious.0

Eh, no worries. I weigh every morning. I do my early morning bathroom thing when I get up, then weigh-in. The daily fluctuations are no big deal. Remember, your food and liquid intake all have mass, and that adds to your total until the nutrients and water are absorbed. Our "weight" changes several times a day, actually--it doesn't mean you're getting fatter. That's why it's best to weigh-in right after you get out of bed (and after you've vacated your bowels and bladder, too)-- you usually weigh the least earlier in the day. I compare the weigh-ins over a longer period, like say, over a month, and you can see the trends then. I'm trending downwards slowly, by gaining a pound or two, lose three, gain one, lose two, gain two, lose three and so on. It just roller-coasters like that, but the overall trend is going DOWN the scale. I started at 228 lbs and I'm down to 209 lbs. :-)
Also, take note of your waistline in inches or whatever measurement scale you use. I measure my waist, my hips, my thigh, upper bust (while wearing a bra) and my upper arm and neck. Again, look for trends over a longer period of time. Give things a few months, you'll start to see how you're trending. And, if your clothes seem looser, yet you still weigh the same on the scale, you're probably losing fat weight. That's why checking on your measurements once in a while is helpful and encouraging when you discover that you're losing inches, even if you aren't losing a lot of pounds, yet.0 -

there are other medical reasons as well. no special snowflake awards for your mom.
and lots of people weigh daily. for any reason they want.0 -
I weigh myself daily and it works for me. Even if my weight is the same of gain a few ounces, I'm ok with that because it's just one day. I would lose my mind if I had to wait an entire week with excitement and anticipation only to find that I stayed the same. So by weighing daily, if by the middle of the week I see no change, I can examine my intake, and other variables to see if adjustment is needed. Helps me stay on track and motivated.0
