If you really want chocolate I suggest you have dark chocolate, at least 80% cocoa. It does have carbs but less then milk chocolate. I find having a few small pieces helps with my chocolate cravings.

Ugh.. I love chocolate too and need to eat low carb. I've found its fun and easy to have slices of strawberries and sugar free chocolate pudding for a snack during work. It kicks my chocolate craving and I stay away from the candy jar. Hope that helps !

Chocolate protein powder makes a great brownie. If you like cottage cheese (which until a few weeks ago I despised cold) mix some sugar free pudding mix for a yummy treat. Agree with higher percentage chocolate (love bittersweet chocolate with sunflower seeds).

    Great low carb hot cocoa:

    2 Tbs pure cocoa powder
artificial sweetener equal to 2 Tbs sugar
    dash of salt

    mix together, then add:

    1/4 tsp vanilla extract
    2 Tbs heavy cream

mix with a fork, then gradually add

    1 C unsweetened almond milk

Microwave for a minute. Beat with fork until smooth. Or use a wisk in a pot. Delicious!!

I have to agree with the dark chocolate folks. Chocolate is good for you!--at 70% or more dark! Milk chocolate will make a person eat ghastly amounts because the sugar triggers craving for more. But dark chocolate can be amazingly satisfying in very small amounts--one or two small squares. It has phenylethylamine which causes your brain to release endorphins--the "feel happy" and relaxing hormones. It also has flavinoids which actually help reduce insulin resistance. i.e., an anti-diabetes effect. It improves circulation, and several other things. I love alloting myself my nearly daily bit of dark chocolate, and there are so many neat fruity/coconut flavors that they make now (esp. if you can get to a natural foods store). Lily's is a brand that actually uses Stevia, so it is even fewer cals. Good luck!!!!!
MistressPi: I'll have to try that cocoa! Cocoa/espresso flavor is my craving, but I haven't run across how to do it low cal/low carb. Thanks!

Russell Stovers makes very good sugar free chocolates. Asher's is probably my favorite. Any of the sugar free candies can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea if you eat too many. Keep that in mind and enjoy a piece once in a while to satisfy your cravings for chocolate.

I eat 99% chocolate. I know nothing about low carb but there's like 4 grams of carbs in an entire bar of Lindt 99% cacao and 1 g of sugar. I don't know if that helps you at all.
