Falling off the wagon on the weekends

It's really hard when I'm having fun with my family, to not eat terribly. I've done fairly well-opting for frozen yogurt rather than my usual hot fudge sundae, choosing crab legs instead of buttery shrimp scampi, stopping myself from eating half a pizza on my own. I haven't done as well as I'd hoped, but it's better than I could have done and I guess that's a big step, right? I really wish I had more self control and that my husband wasn't such an enabler, but I love him and I love food. Here's to hoping I can work off all the bad stuff today and my work week yields better results than my weekend.

My issues is not limited to just the weekends!!!! I do so well through the day, but then at night, around 7-8p, I get these uncontrollable cravings and start chowing down. Self control is something I have been dealing with since I started this, and while I have gotten better, I still fail at night. Especially these past 2 weeks - my dad went into the hospital, and we are not sure how much longer he will be around... I think that has greatly increased my eating at night - when I get home from the hospital.
But, today is a new day! There is a song I have started waking up to in the morning - Day One, by Matthew West. I think it sends a good message about not regretting things and looking at every new day as Day One! Make a plan, and you (and I) will be ok!0 -
I give myself Sunday to eat whatever I want. I'm frying up mush right now, gonna go to the Brewhouse for dinner, and having my weekly pint of Ben and Jerry's tonight.
It helps me focus Monday through Saturday. One day won't ruin everything. It may slow down weightloss, but you'll be able to stick with this new lifestyle longer.0 -

Making small changes is a big step. Also, some people (myself included) prefer to look at the total weekly deficit rather than daily numbers. As long as you are still in a deficit for the week, you will continue to lose weight.
I don't classify foods as good or bad, I think for some people that can set up disordered thinking about food, like you saying you have to "work off the bad stuff". You can still eat the foods you love and lose weight. In the context of an overall balanced diet where you are filling the majority of the day with nutrient dense foods, there is nothing wrong with a hot fudge sundae once in a while, although the FroYo may be easier to fit in.

I agree about not clarifying foods as good and bad. If you try to eliminate foods, I think it increases the chance of binge eating them. Portion control is key as is the will power.0

You all made me feel better! Thanks a lot and I may start focusing on the overall week rather than each day. I've also dealt with eating disorders in the past and I feel this app makes it easier to realize where my problems lie, but it also makes me focus *too* much on the numbers. Looking at the week as a whole may be a better solution to my problem.
JPBgrad98, I've been drinking water mixed with a little psyllium husk fiber in it throughout the day. It fills you up a little more and may help with your nightly snacking. Sorry about your dad. I'm a stress eater as well.
My_Butt, I love that you have a weekly pint of ice cream!0 -
Wow heidee, we sound exactly alike. I also have a hard time on weekends because I enjoy my family SO much AND my husband and I indulge in adult beverages. Struggling right now. :-(0

I like what you had to say Krugeri.0

I'm with you all. I feel like I blow all the good I've done during the week with the weekends. But I just keep trying.0

Give yourself some wiggle room for the weekend, think in terms of a weekly deficit. If you're daily deficit is not too aggressive, you should be able to shave off 100 calories here or there and eat a bit more on the weekend. I do this in maintenance and when I'm losing. Every week I'd log 2500 calories for Saturday, and start working around that.0

Knowing I get a sweet treat, keeps the weekly cravings at bay.
I've also had an eating disorder for 17 years, and using this really helps me focus on what foods I need to eat for vitamins. I started in January at 1,360 calories, and I'm up to 1,990 and losing more weight than on the low calorie end. It may be scary to eat more calories than what an ED would allow, but do experiments. When I was feeling lethargic at work, I upped my carbs and calories and felt a million times more energized after a week.
If something doesn't feel like its working, make a change for two to four weeks.
