I'm terrible for trying new foods (I do make myself try when I can) but for now does anyone have any easy, simple recipes for someone who is a fussy eater?

Too broad of a question. What foods do you like?0

My family has the same problem. 3 out of 5 people in my family are very picky eaters. Unfortunately it is a hard question to answer.0

See, it's not that I want recipes specifically tailored to what I like (plus listing food would take forever)
I guess I just want people's ideas for simple recipes that are quite plain? Like they don't have a ton of ingredients. Then there's less to swap out hahatlbailey79 wrote: »My family has the same problem. 3 out of 5 people in my family are very picky eaters. Unfortunately it is a hard question to answer.
omg yeah my whole family is fussy except my dad and he hates it :')0 -

PIcky's a little bit general a term to use. In my family, all the kids were picky growing up. The only meat my older sister would eat was shellfish. My younger sister would eat any meat except shellfish. I would not eat meat. I would eat all types of non-starchy vegetables, but not potatoes or corn or peas. My younger sister would eat only potatoes, corn or peas for vegetables. She would also eat spaghetti sauce or salsa, but no other tomatoes. I liked pasta, but not rice. My older sister would eat rice, but not pasta.
So to even guess as to what foods or recipes to recommend, you're going to have to narrow down the definition of picky. I'm still picky - I prefer to eat only grassfed or pastured animal products and produce from farmers I know. But I'll eat pretty much any food at all no matter how strange, except blueberries, as long as I'm satisfied with how it's produced.0 -
Salads are easy and you can add anything to them like
Cheese (Cottage cheese mmm)
Fish (tunas my favourite)
Meat (chicken and bacon to die for)
Eggs (one of my regulars)
whack loads of salad in 2 slices of low calorie bread (Thicker you can make it the more satisfying it is)
Or layer it on chrispbreads (19 calories each)
Experiment with different things

Yeah I guess you're right! Well here goes nothing;
I eat most meats except lamb and absolutely hate all fish/seafood! I too, don't like tomatoes but can eat tomato based sauces. I like most veggies you would put with a roast dinner, but picky when it comes to salad vegetables (only really like lettuce/cucumber). Extra picky with fruit, I only like bananas, apples and pineapple. But I'm working on that by putting different fruits into smoothies- I like strawberries and raspberries this way! I don't really like nuts.
Probably missed a ton but at least its a base to work from :L

Good idea I need to learn not to overload the potato
It's funny how I always forget really basic meals when I'm looking at calories :')0 -
Lol me too I'm just learning to lower calories and potatoes are a killer iv stopped mashing (as theses are my favourites) and started using boiled potatoes or new potatoes as they fill you more0

Yeah, I agree fussy is WAY to broad. Do you have texture issues, spice issues, context issues.
Examples: Do you not like mushy foods like stuffing or gelatin? Do you not like hot spices or garlic? or Do you not like meat when it's on the bone or whole fish with eyes?
I understand not liking certain foods, but why? That will help you carve out a create menu.

If you look a few posts above I did explain a little more :') I guess texture is a big one, not keen on stuff thats squishy. Hot spices/garlic are fine0 -

If you like mashed potatoes, I've found pureed kohlrabi or cauliflower or daikon radish or turnip or celeriac make a nice substitute. Kohlrabi is probably my favorite potato sub.0

My bf is super picky... So I youtube & google search recipes made for kids.. Food for kids. I've pulled a few from there. That hide veggies, so he doesn't know he's eating healthy. Plus there simple. So he eats them. were both 32 yrs old. But I eat everything. Lol0

Try new foods and different ways to prepare them. Expand you palate. I used to hate fish but I found ways to cook it that I began to enjoy it.0

I'm in your boat - very picky eater - and it even sound like a lot of the foods you hate are on my list too! I've been doing a lot of simple things lately. I like to cook chunks of chicken and cauliflower in itlian dressing and lemon juice until all the sauce is gone; tons of flavor and really easy! I usually eat it with rice but that's up to you. I also like to do shredded chicken in BBQ sauce. Then I make it into a wrap with cheese and a fruit on the side. My other favorite thing in summers is to do Pasta Salad (pasta, pepperoni, cheese, italian dressing, and whatever veggies you like).0

Haha I'm practically a kid anyways, why not! Seriously though, that's not a bad idea. I can always adapt the recipesTry new foods and different ways to prepare them. Expand you palate. I used to hate fish but I found ways to cook it that I began to enjoy it.
Yeah that's what I try to do If faced with foods I don't really like, I always make myself try at least one of them, otherwise how am I supposed to know I might like them?JediMasterNaw wrote: »I'm in your boat - very picky eater - and it even sound like a lot of the foods you hate are on my list too! All of these ideas sound great!
Thanks everyone!!0 -
I've been known to be pretty darned picky but if I'm hungry enough I'm ready to compromise. I don't love vegetables but I'm hungry at dinner so I eat them first. My stick thin son wants to avoid dinner and snack all evening, but the rule is no snacking if you don't eat (most) of your dinner. Make sure you're good and hungry when mealtime rolls around, and it isn't a problem. This coming from someone who never ate an orange or a tomato until she was an adult because they "looked funny" and as a child once gagged on strawberries because of the texture of the seeds.0

I will try anything you put in front of me, but I will not eat (knowingly) eat onions. I only like crunchy stuff if I know what it is before hand, and even then, if my mind gets away from me and I start thinking about onions, I have to stop eating. Oddly enough, I like the flavor that onions give food. For instance, when I eat at Mexican restaurants, I order fajitas, but eat just the chicken. I won't eat the onions or the peppers. lol
I like to eat (obviously lol), but most recipes have onions in them. I usually just omit and make up the flavor difference in spices.0
