Fry it. I am seriously addicted to this. Make ordinary oatmeal in microwave, fry it as a patty in a pan (I use minimal oil). Fried/poached egg on top (~200kcal) <--lazy way.

The ordinary, non-lazy way is to make oatmeal ahead of time, refrigerate it in a form so it becomes solid. Cut up slices in the morning and fry it in a pan.

I use gluten-free steel cut oatmeal. The steel cut has a really nice nutty crunch to it. I put blueberries in it for the last couple of minutes while it's simmering, and they pop open and flavor it nicely. I put a teaspoon or two of brown sugar in it when it's done and a dash of cinnamon and that's it!

I have a couple of sugar free flavor syrup, French Vanilla, and Caramel. I use that along with adding raw blueberries or strawberries. I finish it with a touch of cinamon....ok more like a spoonful.

I eat foods I enjoy. If you don't enjoy the texture and flavor of oatmeal, perhaps find something else that does please your palate. I add yogurt and currants to mine.

If you enjoy salt/milk/butter, perhaps you would prefer toast, an English muffin, or scrambled eggs.

I use any combination of frozen grapes, frozen or fresh blueberries, walnut halves, cinnamon and skim milk. My grapes are frozen because the quantity is so large to buy and I can't eat before they become raisins.

Overnight Oatmeal taken from Good Housekeeping: 3/4 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup oatmeal (old fashioned), 1/2 tsp chia seeds, 1/2 ripe banana sliced, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract to a container with a lid. Close and shake well to mix. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the a.m.

I put it in the microwave with the recommended water amount, and 3 egg whites. It makes it so fluffy and fantastic!

smash half a banana in it while you cook it, it sweetens but not too much and adds a creamy consistency.... makes all the difference, trust me!

I live on oatmeal. This wonderful whole grain keeps me full, stabilize my blood sugar and simply delish!

I add chia and hemp seeds or almond sliver, blueberries, ceylon cinnamon. Sometimes walnuts instead of almonds and goji berries. Super versatile whole grain that takes any flavor you add. Just read PB-- sounds yummy! I'll try that too! :)

    Sweetener
    Nut butter or PB2
Fruit (such as blueberries, banana, or raisins)
Sugar-free or Walden Farms pancake syrup
    Cinnamon
    Honey

Why can't you add milk and butter? You can save calories by using reduced fat or almond/cashew milk, but still get the creaminess. I add butter to my oats because I have a hard time reaching my fat goal and adding a bit of butter is an easy way to get more fat in. Nothing wrong with butter.

A dash or two of milk, and a pinch or two of salt are essentials for me, but aside from those I've enjoyed grated apple, mashed ripe banana, dried cranberries, cinnamon, peanut butter and flaked almonds in mine (not all at once of course). A bit of coconut oil I also like a lot these days too, as well as a bit of brown sugar/ maple syrup. Treacle is supposed to be a nice alternative sweetener too, but never tried it in my porridge yet.

Overnight oats/ bircher muesli, with a tbsp of chia seeds, oats, yoghurt, fruit (berrries/ grated apple) and flaked almonds works well too. Want to try to (successfully) make steel-cut/ pinhead oatmeal one of these days too, but my previous efforts have been disastrous, and I haven't been inclined to persevere, as I can make my current oatmeal/ porridge on autopilot in 5- 10 mins on the hob as things stand.

Plain oatmeal... how do I make this taste better without adding salt, milk or butter to it. suggestions anyone?

I eat oatmeal the way they do in India ( google " oatmeal upma) with left over, or quickly sauteed vegetables, cilantro and/or parsley and a couple of spritzers of lemon/lime juice. You don't need to put all those indian spices, or you can just chose what you like.
I could not eat sweet oatmeal and this way I get all the nutritional benefits without gagging from all that sweetness ( sorry, I know I must be the only person on this planet who does not like anything sweet or chocolate ....:o)...).
If you don't like the texture of oatmeal, don't force yourself. Just chose another grain, pulse/legume if that is what you would like to eat. I have made the same dish ( upma ) with plain cooked barley, millet , brown rice. I think everyone should enjoy what they eat, especially when chosing more healthful options.
    Good Luck !

I make mine in the crockpot, on 'warm' overnight with 3/1 water to milk ratio. It just doesn't taste right without the milk. Then I'll either do savory with a little cheese and a fried egg or sweet with...well pretty much anything mentioned above.

Get yo'self some Chocolate whey protein concentrate (nice and cheap, though this will contain lactose...)
Add some Natural Peanut butter and the protein powder and voilla... A nice bowl of Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal (you could also use cacaoa instead of chocolate whey and, if you desire, some sweetener).

Then, optionally, you could also add cinnamon or...
Go all out and add some banana as well
Costs some calories, but worth every single one of them (it's healthy that way as well)
