I'm 21 years old, 180lbs. Trying to get to 200 on a bulk. I workout 5 days a week and eat roughly 4000 calories a day and STILL stuck at 180... What to do..?

Ok I don't know much about you, but I'm going to assume your 5'10 and I know you weigh 180 lbs.

With those stats you burn around 2,319 calories at maintenance and this does not count activity. So if you are really eating 4,000 calories per day you have almost a 1,700 calorie surplus. You'd have to be on very active dude and doing tons of cardio to not be gaining weight. I call BS on your food intake, you're not eating as much as you think you are and 4,000 seems to be a bit of over-kill. How long have you been at this?

If you aren't already, you really should be measuring and weighing your food properly. Food scale for solids (even peanut butter) and only liquids in measuring cup.

You might be surprised. I eat close to 4000 a day and I'm under 160. It depends how active he is and BF% plus there is a SD that is fairly high so you could be hundreds of calories over your estimated BRM and still be within the normal range.

OP up your calories and be patient.

I can also see how he might be stuck especially with training 5 times per week. I'm eating 3000cals per day alongside 5 heavy lifting days per week and am still only gaining 2lbs/month. Like Wheels says, up your cals and monitor your weight over the next few weeks. Say maybe an additional 300cals and go from there. Who thought gaining could be so hard?!? lol

    Its very very very simple.

You aren't gaining weight? Protein around 1g/lb at least?

You simply need to push extra calories in. Monitor and adjust. Add in 100 calories extra this week to your daily eating plans. See where you are in a week.

No change? Push in another 100 calories. Rinse and repeat. No more complicated than that.

OP - are you using a food scale to weigh all your solid foods? This could be a case of overestimating calories….

Don't forget the value of an all you can eat buffet. ;)
