ok so you can't actually tone a muscle, muscles get bigger or they get smaller, period. What you are referring to is how to get that "toned" look in your stomach.

The only way to "toned" look in the stomach is simply to lose weight and have some muscle under to show. You build the abs in the gym but the kitchen is how you reveal them.

As everyone knocks the word "tone" down which is perfectly ok as I understand what you mean...(and if you look up in the dictionary it means to give greater strength or firmness to the body or a part of it).

Eat at a deficit and work those abs and obliques to build the muscle underneath any stomach fat you have.. when you loose weight those muscles will show through eventually.. takes time and patience... trust me...

If you are new to exercising perhaps looking for exercises and how to's on youtube or google. Find some exercises you can do and learn how to do proper form on any exercise you do to avoid any injury.

To lose weight and body fat, eat at a calorie deficit. To gain strength and muscle definition ("tone"), lift weights.

You won't gain muscle, except for newbie gains, while lifting in a deficit but you will gain some strength and some slight muscle definition.

To be most accurate with your calories, weigh all solids and measure all liquids. When logging calories burned I would suggest eating back at least half, because MFP overestimates calories burned for exercise.
