Counting steps and logging exercise

Im using my phone to count steps and it syncs to myfitnesspal and adds exercise calories based on how many steps I've taken....I'm not sure if I should be logging other exercises seperately though or just using the step count. For instance if I took a 20 minute walk should I log the walk and the steps both? And today I went on a 45 minute hike. The steps are counted but I wasn't sure if I should log a hike too.

Anything step based should not be logged, or you will be doubling the number of exercise calories.

All of that will not give you exact results in the number of calories - it is just a general estimate. If you really want to be as much precise as you can then use a chest strap which you can connect via bluetooth with some app on your mobile phone.

You can log a step based activity, but you have to make sure you log the correct start time and duration or you will get double credit. Easier to not log it and let the app give you any credit.

Ok, that makes sense. I figured I shouldn't log seperately and just use my calorie burn from my step count but I wasn't 100% sure.
I know it's not exact, but it gives me a general idea at least!
Thanks for the help everyone :)
