I'm starting in may 27 but I want to know how to portion my food and whats good and not good to eat. Maybe someone on here can help with recipes or experience on beginning this journey.

Welcome! So my goal was to not only lose weight, but to learn how to eat what I like as I did it so that once I reach my goal I stay there. So I eat most things that I used to eat, just in much smaller portions. The one adjustment that I've really made is to eliminate things that are really bad calorie bargains that don't fill me up. For example Bagels. As I've lost more weight I began to have to shift my diet to be a little more protein heavy, and less carbs. I did this by adding protein powder to greek yogurt, for my breakfast cereal, as opposed to fruit flavored low fat yogurt. Greek yogurt is much higher in protein than regular yogurt. Same calories, but better macro-nutrient mix.

    Good luck!

Weigh everything, don't view food as the enemy. Eat less than you burn, move more (CI<CO) ^^^there are poor calorie bargains, but no bad foods.

Your question, what's good and not good to eat, is a really wide open and both easy and hard to answer at the same time. In my own experience, I made swaps to help manage my calories and lose weight. For example, whole milk has 150 calories per 8oz, while almond milk has 30 calories per 8oz. Salmon has about 100 calories for 4 oz, vs. beef at about 200 calories for 4 oz (approx, depends on cut). I swapped a lot of veggies and fruits into my diet (broccoli, sprouts, greens, beans, apples, spinach, etc.) which are much better on calories. I cut out fried foods, cut way back on breads, cheeses, and of course, cookies, cakes, desserts, etc. (all are high calories and tend to be low in nutrients). I still eat these foods on occasion, of course, just WAY less often and smaller amounts than before. At one point I was down 65 lbs, but have gained some back in the form good lean muscle :)
