Hey there everybody, first post. I suppose I could make an intro post about myself but yawn.... I think I'll just give you my stats. Live in Louisiana, 34yo, 336 lbs currently (down from 390 in 8/2014). I also have PCO.

So it's not going very fast BUT I've been fat since college and "fluctuating" and struggling with my weight since 13 years old. I've always struggled with a not good enough/fast enough/never gonna be enough mentality thanks to a dad that doesn't understand that his methods that work for him don't work for me. Dad wants me to set goals and time limits and strive for them. So I set a goal of losing 10 lbs a month and I lose 5 and get discouraged, say bah humbug, and eat an entire bag of chips with French onion dip. My whole life it's been like this.

You know where the changing point happened for me? I told my dad to shut up (enough times for him to actually do it), and decided to instead of have goals and time limits I would have the mentality of if I don't gain, I win. If I lose, I win harder. If I falter, that's completely fine, I'll start again.

Yes I fall. Yes I gain 10 pounds back but gues what? I lose it again instead of throwing in the towel and saying not good enough won't ever be good enough why bother trying. I gain, I say "aw man!" and then I start over.

I wish it was going faster but even if it's slowly working it's the ONLY thing that's worked in the 20 yrs I've been wanting to lose weight.

So what works for yall? What do you do, watch, read, talk to, on those days when you just absolutely lose your give a care and eat an entire bag of chips? How do you trick yourself into thinking "So I gained. That's okay!" and get back to it?

I'm in the same boat, gained 6kg after losing 19. Stupid, but I want to have your attitude and say what the hell, you did it before, you CAN start again, in spite of MS, which I've had for about 34 years.

I only log my weight when there is a loss, it's too depressing to log a gain! So according to my graph I've been stationary for about nine months, so I won't get that feel good feeling until I've re-lost those 6 kg, approx 14lb.

So here goes, I'm starting again today!

Welcome and congratulations on your loss so far! I read an article the other day that talked about the one secret to weight loss and it can go with whatever eating plan you prefer- the CD diet- stands for consistency/discipline. Pretty simple concept, but not easy sometimes to carry out. I would add one more work to that - sustainability. This needs to be a change in overall eating habits and you can't think of it as a "diet". It can be easy to stick to something and lose short term, but long term people get bored, get tired of eating too low calorie, carb, or whatever and they gain it back. Consistency/discipline/sustainability-- like you said if you gain you just get right back on and continue and you can lose it again. I like to read the success story forums because these are people who made a change (sometimes a little bit at a time) and just stuck with it over the long term. For me this has turned into less about weight and how my clothes fit and much more about treating my body right, feeling better, having more energy and improving my mood with exercise that I enjoy. You can do this!

Slow and steady wins the race!!! Congratulations on your loss! :-)
What works for me is moderation and portion control. If I want ice cream,I have it! Just in a smaller portion then before
