I am about to hit my first 10lbs lost mark and I want to reward myself! Rather than rewarding myself with food I thought I would buy something so I can start some type of strength training.

I don't want to spend a lot of money - no more than $50 really - can anyone suggest something that I should buy to get started?

Resistance bands or maybe a couple 10 lbs dumbbells. Then you can look online for good workouts to do with both.

I agree with the 5lb weights since there are some upperbody lifts those are great starting points for (lateral raises being one).
But 2lb weights are useless unless you're rehabbing an injury. Your purse weighs more than that.

    I suggest 5 & 8lb dumbbells to start with.
Price them out tho at a sporting good store, Walmart, Craigslist, and a used sporting equipment place. Figure out where you can get the most bang for your buck (it might be Walmart!)

Dumbbells and resistance bands - I will check them out! Thank you!

And a gym membership...? No way! I am too self conscious to even go to the grocery store, think I'd have a panic attack before walking into a gym! Maybe in a few months though...baby steps

With dumbbells, you can do the Nerdfitness beginner bodyweight routine.
It's easy to make easier or harder as needed.

Plus I here that there are workouts on fitness blender (I've never used it)

    And baby steps are perfect!

I am a beginner too with weight lifting or strength training. i bought 3lb weights, 5 lb weights and 10lb weights- but I willhave to grow into the 10 lb weights- so i mainly use the 3 and 5 lbers and i feel I will be getting stronger soon. good luck!
