    Never heard of it

A BMI of 25 is not overweight

If you want to lose weight eat fewer calories than you burn

And move more (will make you feel better)

And lift heavy (will make you look awesome)

But seriously you just need to eat fewer calories

    It is that simple

Which it has recommended based on the information you provided

And like all of us you probably started off saying you're sedentary and want to lose 2lbs a week...right? :)

You should eat back 50% of your calorie burns from purposeful exercise on top of that and judge weight loss over time (6-8 weeks) and adjust accordingly

Dependent on your weight to lose you should consider setting a lower target weight loss per week and ensuring you have a wide, sustainable diet

Keep your head in maintenance, how are you going to keep the weight off when you hit your goal weight ...because if you're on a restrictive diet you will have problems ...people keep talking about lifestyle change which makes me want to spit ...but really it's about sustainability ...once I hit maintenance I simply got an additional 250 calories to eat which I built into my logging ..it's the only way I can be sure I'm not going to yo-yo ..and it might sound awful but it's easy as anything now

    Good luck

They're the same thing. Calories are a unit of energy. Restricting calories is restricting energy. Sometimes doctors use the term energy restricted diet when they want to put someone on a very low calorie diet. Since you are not obese or morbidly obese a very low calorie diet is not an appropriate method for you.

25 is overweight, <25 isn't. Energy restricted means eating less calories, hypocaloric is another term, as opposed to a diet where you eat something different or restrict (say) fat.

a calorie is a unit of energy...an energy restricted diet is a calorie restricted diet which pretty much describes every diet that exists because no diet would work if you weren't restricting energy (calories).
