hello I need all the help I can get. Need MFP friends and tips. I don't know how to eat right at all I grew up on fast food and boxed dinners. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Please add me too. Thank you

    Abs is made in the kitchen, so does if you want lose weight. Just switch slowly to healthy food, unless you have iron will, you can switch to healthy food. Do you have kitchen? Try make your food by yourself so you can control what do you eat. Also, drink a lot of water. Before you eat, drink 1-2 glass of water, it should give you "stuffed" signal to your brain. Have you gone to gym or exercise?

    You don't have to "eat clean" or "healthy" in order to lose weight. Its all about calories in vs calories out. Eat less than you burn. The sexy pants link I provided should help you to get started and in this forum there are a few more sticky threads that can help too.

    Here are a few things that help me in my quest to eat a little better!

    Plan your meals before you eat them. I've got a dry erase calendar on my fridge, and once a week I sit down and plan out my meals. Then I make my shopping list and go shopping. It saves me time, money, and stress. It helps with variety (I try to do different protein sources, ie "meatless Monday" is plant based protein, Tuesday is chicken, etc), and I plan in my vegetables, too. If it's on my calendar and in my fridge, I'm more likely to eat the healthy stuff.

    Find a cookbook that you like and experiment. I've got a few different meal plan cookbooks that have given me some great ideas. I have say that I'm not a fan of following extreme or strict diets, but that being said, I love the breakfast ideas in Bob Harper's "Skinny Meals" book, and the South Beach diet cookbook has given me great ideas for protein enriched snacks that help me fight my sugar cravings. My husband and I used to do a new recipe once a week when we were first married, and we found so many yummy recipes. We discovered that we love fish and that "vegetarian" is not scary.

    Set goals - keep it small and simple. For example, you might just want to concentrate on drinking water for a while. For me, I realized when I started tracking food that there was an extreme lack of fruits and vegetables, so I set a goal of eating 2 fruits and 3 veggies a day. It has really helped me to improve my eating habits, to nourish my body instead of just filling my stomach.

    Agree, but I prefer eat clean. Easier to track in my opinion yet it's good to have sort of discipline towards healthy meal instead processed crap. But it's all your program FairlyLover88, all you have to do good eat, good training and have good rest.

    +1 for sexipants thread.

    To start, I suggest swapping out your snacks for healthy versions and buying a recipe book. Experimentation is the best way to learn to cook. Maybe watch some cooking shows too.

    you can do this.

    Look for friends with common interests and their diaries. Visit youtube and pinterest and start brushing up your knowledge

    What do you like to eat? Because the only thing needed for weight loss is eating less calories than you you burn.
    So fill in here on MFP your stats and take baby steps
    When you want to cook more start out with some research and make one meal.

    Let say the Talapia posted above some veggies/salad and potato. Search for some cooking videos and try it out...now from there you start to expand the meal....exchange the ingredients for others. Try out different veggies etc.
    Start making your own pizza.
    And dont get me wrong you can lose weight by eating only McDonald food or only fruit etc. As long as you eat less calories than you burn.

    But when you want to incorporate more own cooked food you need to read a bit into it. choose one recipe and start doing it.

    Now to know how much calories you eat, you have to start weighing your food on a food scale and log them here on MFP. Not measuring with cups and spoon, not going by serving sizes because that can be way off.
    So learn yourself these steps and you will be ok.

    You can also add me if you want. You can see my diary and what i make and cook and i describe also often how i made a meal and a picture of it.

    Learn and be adventurous in the kitchen :) its big fun!!!

    Choose a reasonable calorie goal and stick to it. Expect it to take time to lose weight and be patient. Don't go below 1200 calories. Log your food and drinks as accurately as you can.
    Do you know how to cook? If you don't pick up a basic cookbook like Better Homes and Gardens or a cookbook for kids. They have recipes for basic things and often explain equipment and terms.
    Meal planning is really helpful.
    You don't have to eat strange food or eat something different every meal. You can eat the food you like just have the appropriate portion size for your calorie goal. You can eat boxed food or fast food and lose weight. You don't have to cut out food groups or eat super low fat. Choose a way of eating that you can live with long term.
    Maybe make small changes at first like trying to get more fruits or vegetables or drinking water instead of soda pop.
    I eat yogurt, cereal, granola bar, sandwich or leftovers for breakfast. My lunch is usually a sandwich or leftovers. I write a list of 28 dinners every month and divide that into groups of 7. I just cross things off as I have them. Snacks for me are usually fruit, carrots, popcorn, cheese, granola bar or trail mix. Desserts happen occasionally.
    Most of my food is prepared at home. I eat out one meal a week and plan my choice in advance.
    I pre-log my food for the whole day the night before or in the morning. I put dinner in my diary first, then lunch, breakfast and snacks. It only takes a few minutes.
    Exercise is good for you. If you are just starting out don't be too intense. Do what you can. Start with walking 10,15, or 30 minutes.
