I'm VERY Confused on Why the BMR & TDEE thread was Stickied on the Announcements ?? :( :(

Help me out, guys. On the Announcements, there's that post called "Most Helpful Posts - General Diet & Weight Loss Help (Must Reads)," there's one discussion entitled "BMR & TDEE Explained for those Needing a Guide" or something along those lines. Read through it, and then read my comments on page 19 and then get back to me. Am I wrong? I'm super-duper confused because I see a lot of "starvation mode"-ness to that post. Maybe I'm the one not understanding BMR & TDEE after all? Help!

Hey! You're not supposed to talk about Fight Club! Simply use the Search function OP. Nothing to see here. Everything is good and find now. How are you? Good.

    @asflatasapancake ... I'm confused. lol. What?!

OK, so I'm not crazy, right? That post has 20 pages of "thank yous" and "this is amazing" and barely anything else ... which is REALLY unlike a post like that.

You are not crazy. You are correct.

My sense is everything about the current recommended threads is a lost battle.

lol ... I was reading all the hundreds of 'bumps' and 'thank yous' just HOPING one of you regulars had jumped in somewhere along the way to stop the madness. All those people fed into that nonsense :(

Awww... except the "Weight Loss is Not Linear" thread. That one really helped me out.

But yeah, I have a feeling the mods looked at the number of replies and decided those must have been the most helpful, even if they were full of people refuting the OP's assertions.

Oh, I'm not saying they are all bad, but just that trying to get the right threads picked (and wrong ones not) seems a waste of time, as they seem to have some process that is above us all. ;-)

Truth, I never even read the entire OP... I just skipped to the important part on how the other website worked (putting numbers in & all) when I first began. If you know what's what, then I don't see the need to be bothered at all about the thread.

That's the problem, those threads are where new people are directed and they don't know what's what.

Right. That's my point. It took me a long time before I started believing all of you and getting my facts straight and weeding out all of the B.S. I'd been taught and whole-heartedly believed for years. I actually was told by a trainer that I had "destroyed my metabolism" and that it can take up to a year to get out of "starvation mode" and for my body to understand that the food I was giving it wasn't to all be stored. I got to the point where I'd starve myself even more because I was afraid that if I ate ANYTHING, I'd gain. This is the *kitten* that is detrimental, and this is the *kitten* that's in that thread that's actually being promoted to newcomers. Not cool.

Unless I was looking at the wrong one, I just saw it in the list still.

Why don't ya'll start a thread on what posts you do think should be stickied and then send it to Rachel or Olivia?

It's not a sticky, but it's included in the "Most Helpful Posts" thread that's taking the place of the stickies right now: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177910/most-helpful-posts-general-diet-and-weight-loss-help-must-reads#latest

Which includes the "confession time, no judgement" thread with 20K responses, I kid you not.

When I saw the mix of gold and garbage in the new list of most useful threads, I just gave up - it was this or going insane. Not fighting this anymore, MFP, have it your way... (But there are still 4 lights!)

Its not. That list was not created to be helpful. It was created as a misguided attempt to quiet us all down regarding our complaints that useful links had been removed. Its a band-aid, if that.

Change for the sake of change rarely works out well. This is a perfect example.

Congratulations. They gave the word "helpful" a whole new meaning. It now means "voted on by people who don't know what they're talking about".

It was added to the list because someone jokingly recommended it be stickied, since it seemed they wanted to remove all the actually useful posts. They took her at her word. Joke's on us now.

I am not so sure it was a joke. It was dug up about a week ago by a poster and this is what they had to say about it...

"THIS IS ACTUALLY GOOD INFORMATION PEOPLE!!!

    FAVORITE THIS THREAD! "

Someone must have thought it was great...IDK.

Actually, and I wish I could remember who, but someone did specifically state that they suggested that thread as a joke. There may have also been others who voted for it too.

I'm not the only one puzzled by this site.

I had been working with a trainer and dietician, Dr for a year and lost 100 lbs before ever finding this place. A friend used the food diary, told me about it. and that is all I used for a while.

I looked thru much of this and saw tons of things that contradicted what I was taught, and what worked for me long term. Straight up told it would not work.

I know there are different diets for different people and all that... I respect different dietary needs and all that.

But I never hear any of the arguing and craziness in person at the gym I do here.

Then there is some bit somebody shares that is awesome! I say I have to totally do that in my life.

Somebody said something to the effect of

CICO is not a blank check for bad nutritional choices long term.

    That was money.

Yes Picard, there are 4 lights

I agree with this. If no one is monitoring, they can get off track (way off track).

I disagree. Many of them, especially those made by posters like @usmcmp, are full of useful questions and answers in the comments. I would hate to lose those once the post is stickied.

That's true. I don't know that there is a great answer. I bookmarked your list, so I will just use that :).
