So my mother and I have been using this app and following doctors orders (walk, lots of water and less junk) for a few months now and still are not seeing any weight loss. Any advice? Any tricks to it? Pills? Drinks? Ideas? Lol, thanks

It's all about how many calories you eat and how many you burn. If you're not losing weight, than you're probably eating too much.

Are you staying in a calorie deficit and logging everything? Are you weighing/measuring your food intake? Do you eat back your exercise calories, and if so how much of them?

I only finished it this week, haha. Flow charts just make so much sense to me, I was actually really surprised something like this didn't exist already :)

See the above flowchart first, it's a great resource.

No pills, shakes, drinks, etc are going to make any difference. You need to zero in on what you're eating vs. how much you move around and exercise.

Are you weighing your food? If you're just measuring with cups and spoons you are probably eating more than you think.

If you think you're doing all that pretty well, maybe you can open your diary and see if some of the people here can spot something.

Read the flow chart carefully. If you still don't know why you're not losing weight, you need to open your food diary so we can investigate further and give you more specific advice.

1000 calories is very low, in my opinion.

    There are only 4 possibilities:

    1. Calories in are wrong: You're not logging correctly. You have to log every bite, even condiments, drinks, bites of stuff while cooking, and you have to weigh it to log it accurately. Measuring spoons and cups don't work for anything but liquids.

    2. Calories out are wrong: You put the wrong info into MFP for weight/height/activity level so it thinks your calorie burn is higher than it is. Or you're entering exercise and eating back all the calories. MFP estimates for exercise are too high.

    3. Water weight: You're retaining water. This can happen for lots of reasons including hormonal fluctuations, eating more carbs or sodium than usual, or muscle recovery after changing or increasing your activity.

    4. Medical issue: Talk to your doc. Get your thyroid and blood sugar tested.

While TDEE and MFP calculators for daily calorie burns are estimates based on population averages, and there's some variation in actual populations with people who have slightly slower or faster metabolisms, owing to lots of things like genetics and body composition, that difference isn't huge. It isn't hundreds of calories. You can't eat 1000 calories consistently and not lose weight unless you are literally a dwarf, or unless you are experiencing one of the above 4 issues.

There is one possibility no one has mentioned. You may be eating too little. Your body will hold onto fat stores if it is not being properly fed.

Sorry to inform you that this is a myth that doesn't actually happen, as evidenced by millions of people in concentration camps, as well as actual studies.

Or a secret sixth option: there are evil invisible gremlins standing on the scale with you. Just as plausible as starvation mode.

First of all you shouldn't be aiming for less the what MFP gave you. You need to reach that goal, and preferably eat back a portion of your exercise calories (50% - 75%). With that said, unless you have an undiagnosed medical condition, you are eating more then 1000 - 1200 calories, especially if you've been doing this for a few months. When you log, do you weigh ALL solids and measure liquids? This includes any oil you cook with. Do you log everything? The nibbles you take while preparing food, a couple chips you might grab out of the bag, etc. First step is do all of this for a month. If you still aren't losing - make a doctors appointment. There are no tricks & do Not start using pills!

Went to the doc the other day, he was asking about my other problem ( I get dizzy and light headed when I eat sometimes ) he said I could have "dumping syndrome" which will effect the carb consumption and they may be connected. He said start charting what I eat when I get dizzy and he may end up having to give me pills to regulate my carbs and everything so that it's back on track and then I should be able to lose weight.

I looked it up...sounds quite unpleasant. I hope your doctor can help with the treatment.

But that still doesn't change that your probably not eating in a deficit.
