Many thanks to everyone for the nice comments on my 5k!
My medal is now hanging with all the keys-and-purse-and-whathaveyounot clutter in the hallway. If I enter more races, I'll have to look for an aparatment with a larger hallway, so that I can put up a vintage metal mannequin for them. That's so cool B)

@autumnblade75 - that must have been really frustrating, to be on track for a great time and then have the race cancelled. I can understand that the organisers don't want anyone to get hurt, but that doen't make it any less disappointing when things were going so well. Best of luck with your 5k next weekend!

@SuzLink - the forecast is something like 10°C (or a little more), right? At least for me, that's more or less the perfect running temperatures. But I guess for a general "it's summer"-feeling, a little warmer would be nice...

But the yoga has really been helping a whole lot. Especially with the tight hips and calves that I was getting.

What a great idea. I have also fallen off the Yoga train and am feeling tight. Upping my PiYo time (from 0 to 2x a week) should help me, body and spirit.

    Cheers!

Can't believe how many pages I had to go back to find my last post! Wow! this place is hopping!
@JoRocka - Good to see you back here!
@skippygirlsmom - love that bib holder! Mine are all in a filing cabinet except the one from my first half which I put up on the wall! I also write all the race info and results on the back so I have it right there. It is so cool that Fleet Feet will give you a discount! Did someone say New Shoes? Your 10.21 pace is fantastic - great job! I would like to get there (or a bit lower) for a half one of these days.
@SBRRepeat - Love your bike rack/bib holder! It is awesome!
@ddmom0811 - I am sorry your ankle is still giving you issues! Hope it is better soon!
@italysharon - pretty much how I felt this morning too but mine was too much beer at the BBQ birthday party on Sunday..
@autumnblade75 - That is terrible about your race! Was there at least lightening after they cancelled? You will get that sub-60 and sub-30!!
@tdbernrd - I have never heard of a runners low unless it is the reason some runners cry after a race?
@Remus42 - Welcome back! I have been doing yoga too. I found some great yoga for runners videos on DoYogaWithMe.com
@caratayloruk - Great job hanging in there even though each step was a battle! There will be days like that but then there are the ones where the run is wonderful and you could just keep going and they make up for the bad ones!
@ShortMrsN - be sure to take it slow and get some ice on that knee!

@shanaber Fleet Feet is great. They have a loyal buyers program and for every $250 you spend they give you a $25 credit. One time I was up to $75 and Skip got a pair of spikes for cross country for $10. They also give her a 15% discount on everything running but watches because she runs for a school. At the Cotton Row expo she brought the shoes she loves in a half size larger than she wears now because they were on clearance for $69 and then they gave her my loyal customer $25 credit. In the store last month we paid $130 for her shoes..exact same ones just a different color. If you wear your shoes for a month and hate them, they will take them back. They take as much time as you need when buying. One night the fitter worked with Skip for over an hour. The store was closed and we were still there, they never make you feel rushed or pushed to buy from them. Love them!

Managed 5.16 k this morning despite a pain in my butt and sore quads. Total of 26.57/70 km this month.

Question for all you runners. I'm noticing my speed has increased vastly the past few weeks. Is it normal for new runners to make some speed gains once they've built up their aerobic endurance for running or should I back up and change anything? I can still talk while running etc. etc. I have no plans of wanting to be speedy gonzalez. I'd be happy to hit an under 30 5k and under 60 10k.

Back! Sort of fell off the wagon with logging here last month, but I completed my half marathon on Saturday and am feeling great! Setting a goal for 90 miles this month.

    6/2 = 4.2 mi
    6/4 = 4.12 mi
    6/6 = 13.1 mi (Race 13.1 Half - 2:16:51 finish time)

I was sore for a couple days but feel WAY better now - planning to ease back in with an easy 4-miler tomorrow.

Can you tell them to open a store in So CA please!! For so many people living here there are very few running stores and I haven't been too happy with the two that are closest at a reasonable 30-45 min drive.

@RunTimer and @shanaber I forgot how amazing yoga is. And it's such a great way to stretch out muscles. Which is good for me because I was never stretching before or after runs...my bad I know.

3.4 miles on the treadmill this morning.

Just catching up on what's been going on around here, @isulo_kura, hope you're knee is healing - that looked really nasty! Only ever fallen once but I tripped over a dodgy paving stone and let out a four letter expletive as I went over, just as a man and his little girl were walking by. I don't know what was more embarrassing, me sprawled out on the pavement or my horror when that word just flew out of my mouth. Amazing how much these things hurt as an adult (your dignity as well as physically!)

@Pandora_and_her_box Knee is OK just some soreness. It's one of these things that is inevitable especially when running trails. The aim is to do it without anyone but the sheep noticing ;)

@skippygirlsmom - I like that bib organizer. I just keep mine tucked away wondering what, if anything I'm going to do with them.

@whatmerunning They have a million different kinds. I keep finding me all over my car LOL the other day I found last year's Cotton Row in back of my SUV and what kills me is that one is worth money in the Fleet Feet store, which is probably why I left it in the car to start with. You buy something and show the bib and you get money off.

Cottton Row is one of the best

Best bib or best race @stingrayinfl ?

one of the better races...rd's are the best..good Memorial day run and atmosphere is great and post race food is great..lol...bib (if I can remember correctly is big, I like small bibs),,,this yr, they could have made it an urban trail with the tree down..lol

@autumnblade75 - That really sucks to hear about the cancelled event. That has been my big concern at the Spring events so far this year with all this crazy weather. I mean, it can rain all over me and even hail (easy to think that until it hails of course). I just want the race to go on! It must have been pretty bad weather, I imagine.

@tdbernrd - I've seen a few threads recently here, or maybe in the Long Distance Runners group about this. There can be a lot of contributing factors, mental and physical. From reaching your goal and feeling you have lost your purpose, to a build up of cortisol leading to some depression. I have only felt this once, and it was kind of mild but noticeable. In that case I think it was physical because mentally I had some bigger goals planned in my future. But I had run my butt off in that half without preparing nutritionally for running at that high of an effort (over 2 and a half hours at my "fast" pace). I suppose part of it might have been mental from being a little bit defeated both in my original plan, and from having to struggle so hard to finish what should have been a relatively easy half.

@annekka - Yes, if you have been running at a proper pace to build your aerobic system it is normal to result in running faster at the same effort. It is the primary focus of my summer training this year. Lots of slow, easy miles to increase my pace and to run further distances.

Six hilly miles today. I'm focusing on hills this summer. If anyone has any good spare hills send them my way.

    6/2 - 4.1 miles
    6/3 - 4 miles (8.1 total)
    6/4 - 4.1 miles (12.2 total)
    6/6 -13.4 miles (25.6 total)
    6/8 - 6 miles (31.6 total)
    6/9 = 6 miles (37.6 total)

    Goal 130 miles

Just come visit me and I'll take you to ours

@tdbernrd - I don't get depressed or a runner's low or anything after a 5K/10K but I certainly did after my half. It was my first (and only so far) and I worked so hard to get there that I kinda felt like what now after I was done. Also I was spent afterwards and then I saw my mileage and speed suffer and I was like what the heck. People told me it was normal and to continue on. So I signed up for a 10K and that gave me something to look forward too. Then my mileage picked back up and so did my "speed" and all is well now in my world.

@annekka people kept telling me and I know it's true with miles come speed. I'm no zip zip runner, but I know I've added speed along with distance in the last year. I will never be a 20 min 5K runner, I'm happy with sub 30..I'm built for distance not for speed LOL

@akirkman86 awesome job on the half, great time!!

@7lenny7 how do you like the forerunner?
